wow! Hey John,
Sounds like you and Meg and the other teachers had a great trip. Glad the guide got you back safely. Looks like Tammy Jones would love to do that. I know she has in Colo. She just did like a 3 wk river trip someplace in her kayak. Had a couple cousins from So Africa here for 3 wks. Left for NY yesterday then to London. Lee is at the Cape for a few days with his girlfriend and her fam so I hope he'll be back in the city in time ti show them his apt and go out to dinner with them Wed nite. He did see them here though.
Take care you two
Love Frannie
Hello Glad to see that you'all are doing well. Things are getting weird here at Habitat: Today, July 1, is the last volunteer work day until we start plating in late August..then we'll have a "blitz" building 6 homes starting in September. Lotsa construction-type changes also and some new efficiencies. We now are building our houses in 9 to twelve "volunteer days" and the rest of the work is done by the subcontractors. The 9 day buiilds are because many of the homes we're buiiding now are 80% brick so we don't have to spend lots of time installing siding.
Anyway, just wanted to check in and am glad that Costa Rica is treating you well.
Take Care.

Merry Christmas!! Hello John and Megan great blog entries and pictures!!. Sounds like a great adventure. teaching, surfing, beaches, sunsets, sunrises, cool shade trees, reading, and wildlife. I guess your professors now and are making a difference in other people’s lives. Good luck in Heredia. I hear that coffee and volcanoes are big there.
Have a Merry Christmas and Great New Year!! Jamie
We have enjoyed reading your comments via the blog. I am sure by now you are settling into your classes, beginning to feel somewhat settled in your new surroundings, BUT still trying to abosrb it all.
We will miss you at Christmas!
Mike
you will make it!!!! Hey Guys, Megan, I can only imagine your class , I think the one consistent in CR is that anytime you think it will be one way it will always be quite the opposite. Lean from the Tico's, I try and try to make their dishes, Somehow they always make it on about 300 a month, i can't do it but I never see skinny starving Tico's =) I'm going to come pick you kids up and take you out for diner one of these days. Did you try surfing? Have fun!
Megan, I am so proud of you for sharing your first day of teaching with us all! I remember just wanting to go home and have a good cry after my first day of teaching. But you pick yourself up, look at what worked and what didn't and go on from there.
Thanks Giving I wish I could send you all that left over turkey and side diches I have from thanks giving. It is taking lots of room in my fridge and I bet you I wont be able to eat it all. Oh well good luck to you happy holydays :) Adios
You know it has to get better Megan,
Sorry to hear about your rough time. Things will only get better. You have already figured out what went wrong and what needs to be done in the future to make sure it does not happen again. Many teachers just go about their lesson plans and think that it's not their problem and that the students have to catch up but that is not always the case. You have already figured out that you have to differentiate and modify according to your class. You are already ahead of the game in that respect. It will only get easier but you know that you will experience new problems soon enough. You have a good attitude and will adjust and tackle those as well. I have so much faith in you and am so proud of you. You are doing something remarkable and you will see all your hard work will begin to pay off soon enough. Keep your head up.
Ouch! That sucks, but at least you did your best to salvage the situation. Did you get the marker off the board? If it's a whiteboard just take one of the whiteboard markers and color over the permanent marker and it should dissolve the permanent marker and cling to it and then you can just wipe it off like normal. I used to draw on my whiteboard with sharpie all the time when I didn't want something erased and then I would just erase it with the whiteboard markers when I didn't want it anymore.
Happy Thanksgiving You'll do great today seester. I'm sure you'll both make fine teachers. But surfing? Not so sure, sounds like hellafun though. We just finished eating here. Thanksgiving dinner just wasn't the same w/o you.....
We are so glad to hear things are going well Well we are hanging out tonight getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We sure miss you but I am so glad things seem to be going well. I can't wait to read how John's class went tonight. Good luck tomorrow Megan. Let us know.

Hi John.
You are right in assuming most of the companies are in Heredia and San Jose, although I think more in San Jose. Some school's have classes right in their company but other's like mine send you out into the world to teach, like an out-sourced contractor. I've heard that the training program in Samara is really good and if you're looking for companies to apply to once you are fully trained, IESA is the school that I am the Academic Director of and if timing works out possibly we could work something out! At the very least... I'm around if you need recommendations on safe neighborhoods, things to bring along with you (noticed your dilema on your blog). I will say that I wouldn't worry too much about bringing household items from home because a majority of the places you rent come fully furnished.
Let me know how I can help!
Krista
We are living in Costa Rica now and are wanting to share our adventures with all of our friends and family. This is a dream and a plan that we have been working on for a long time. We are very excited and honestly a little nervous about the venture we are beginning. We have sold the house and most of our belongings, paid off our debts, and collected a small savings to begin the trek. This all started with our mutual desire to travel and see and experience as much as we can of this incredible world. ... full info
