My brother and I spent most of our youth traveling all over North America in the family’s camper van, airplane, and boat - going as far west as the Hawaiian islands, as far north as Tuktoyaktuk, and as far south as Mexico doing lots of adventurous stuff...canoeing, surfing, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, exploring, jellyfish poking...it was the best childhood ever! Roomba Feeding time

Right on cue at 5 pm, the rays would drift in to be fed. Habituated from years of fishermen feeding them their byproduct. Now a tourist trap.

Mexico is completely devoid of conch so it was nice to see them again

A fellow Canuck on my dive boat. An ER nurse, we bonded over stories of shift work and crazy patients.

How they just glide through the water like an eagle on the wind.

Belize still provides the world with tons of chocolate per year.

Such a refreshing activity during the hot sweltering day.

The only way to get around on Caye Caulker efficiently.

Turned bright orange for mating season, easy to spot nodding off in branches in the sun.

I couldn’t get enough of these purple fan corals! I’ve only ever seen them in reds, oranges and yellows.

Oh my. They were huge and very curious. My new favourite sea creature.

Andrea, congratulations on retirement. Belize sounds like a pleasant change for your beach life. Mexico has been your love for decades but a branch out won't hurt. I suspect you will see Belize again. I'll be interested in reading about your volunteer work. Your smile says it all. Squeeze out every ounce of quiet, nothing and day drinking as necessary. Nice underwater photos
You have some really nice underwater photos in the blog. I wish I was as good as you taking those. I was in Belize a few years ago. I really loved Caye Caulker and I would like to go back there again. For a while we were thinking about visiting Belize/Guatemala next summer. But when we couldn't find flight tickets we decided on going to Canada instead. /Ake

Oh I love this - so glad to see Andrea is back and travelling again! 😁 Your new lifestyle also sounds incredible - slow travel and house/pet-sitting. I imagine you'll have many more adventures like this, and I look forward to reading about them. I've been to a few places you mention here in Belize, but I was doing the more fast-travel type of trip, so it's lovely to read about the country here in first gear. I completely understand your words on Belize City, I felt the same there. Sounds like you had some serious time to unwind in San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Great reading 😊
