We slept in this morning, it felt good. We got suited up and walked back up to The Split/Lazy Lizard to hang out. We spent a lot of time floating/swimming around in the deeper water on the other side of the little concrete wall. The water felt nice - not even the slightest bit cold, but somehow a little bit refreshing. Swam out into the waterway a little bit - the current wasn't too bad, and it felt good to be out in the ocean.
Had a few beers and talked to a lot of people today. There was one older guy there who had the right idea - everyday he'd come with his oldschool beach chair, hat, sunglasses, cigar and an ice chest of beer and just sit in the shallow water hanging out. It's definitely a way to aspire to be! He was pretty amusing too.
It got pretty crowded (considering the time of year) and we left around 1p to go grab some lunch. We picked up some chicken tostadas to go from Syd's and brought them back to our hotel. We ate them outside in the shade by the pool. They were tasty.
Got into the pool afterward (waiting be damned!) and swam slowly and hung out for a couple of hours.
We went back up to our room and took showers, and then our A/C started sputtering and died. We told the front desk and eventually they send up a repair guy. He took it apart trying to fix it, but couldn't. We got moved to another room, next door (from 15 to 14). The view isn't quite as nice as our original room, but the A/C works and it's much nicer than our last one. It's quiet and doesn't sound like it's going to die. Also our shower faucet is WAY nicer.
We then discovered that despite trying our best we still got sunburned this morning. I burnt my neck, side of face and ears! Adam re-burnt his shoulders. We gooed up and tried to take a nap in the late afternoon, but just ended up having quiet time.
We went for a little walk in the evening on Back St. before dinner just to see what was around. Mostly residential. We ended up going to the Barrier Reef Sports Bar on the beach for dinner and trivia night. We split a chimichanga (which tasted like a jumbo taquito) and later some fries with gravy (a spicy kind of gravy). Had some jungle juice & panty ripper (aka shipwreck) and tried our best at trivia. As "The Smooth Brains" we were up against 3 other teams - an couple in their 40's, a group of younger Germans, and a table of 6 people - mostly locals. We started off strong, but ended poorly - there were a lot of history and a sports bonus question! The Germans left, giving us 3rd place by default. The table of 6 people easily kicked ass and won. We thought the final score should have been divided by the number of people in your group 😊 But we had a lot of fun anyway. The trivia guy was completely shitfaced and came over to slur/chat with us for awhile. He had some pretty amusing stories. We left after 10p and went to a small store to pick up some water and fanta and then headed back to our room to get ready for bed.
