Recently I have been a little saddened to witness my FaceBook and Twitter feeds being inundated with “good riddance’s” to 2016. Apparently, many look back on 2016 as a horrible or depressing year; the worstyear ever. They are pining over the start of 2017; eagerly anticipating a fresh start and the dawn of a more peaceful and stable life. Now I am not totally in the dark, I realize there have been some dramatic and difficult times this past year; both on the global scene and in each of our personal lives. Naturally, we all have challenges at times. But as I choose to avert my attention off the negative and reflect on all the good blessings in life; I would have to say 2016 has been a great one. Well, we are “unofficially” now in the Bahamas. I say “unofficially” because we have yet to land and clear all the “legal” hoops of customs and immigration, but we are now physically on the waters among the Bahamian islands. And it is as beautiful as I imagined it to be. While the waters in the Florida panhandle and Keys are clearer and warmer than at home, the waters here in the Bahamas are unbelievably breathtaking. It is like we are cruising in a giant vat of tropical punch Kool-Aid (although it definitely doesn’t taste like Kool-Aid)! This morning I could still clearly see the bottom even at 30+ feet. Yesterday’s crossing through the Gulf Stream was a little rougher than we anticipated. We had read that it is best to cross when the winds are blowing ... read more

I had an amazing time in Eleuthera. I went with my girlfriend for some peace and relaxation!!! We rented a place for cheap on VRBO and flew via Bahamas Air. The amount of time we spent on deserted beaches was unimaginable. The sun, the waves, the people..... Everything was AMAZING!! We are the DIY travel type, we aren't about that "All Inclusive" lifestyle. Because of that, we were able to really get away and see a realer part of the Bahamas. Here are a few key takeaways. 1. Bring extra sunscreen 2. Bring DEET bugspray 3. Dont leave your clothes on the floor. There are scorpions, and the hide in your stuff. 4. Make sure you name any geckos and give them words of encouragement to eat more bugs. 5. If you are a black american, ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Bahamas » Half Moon Cay February 16th 2016

I gave Sharon a hard time about how she pronounced “Half Moon Cay” (she’s been calling it Half Moon Key) after Simon referred to today’s destination just the way it’s spelled (“Half Moon Kay”); but, she insisted that she was right, and Simon, the all-knowing Cruise Director and master of our Team Trivia later this afternoon (you know the one… who’s always right), well she was adamant that he was mis-pronouncing our beach spot! Sharon doesn’t like to be wrong, especially since she knows everything (and I have my Google T-Shirt to prove it). The seas were pitching pretty well during the night and we could feel the swell in our forward berth. As I opened the drapes to let in the sunlight, massive sea-sprays were visible at our Main Deck level. Sharon doubted that we ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Bahamas December 9th 2015

We have now visited all the places we wanted to see so with a day at sea and a stop at Princess's own resort in the Bahamas before arriving back at Fort Lauderdale we are on our last leg as opposed to many of the guests on this ship who are also on their last legs!!! During the day at sea we actually had a lie in thus missing the morning trivia! The brain is in need of a refresh so we were happy to do as little as possible, well, until the lunch time trivia. Each morning, Lisa, the Cruise Director announces highlights from the day's activities ahead. Today she promoted a culinary demonstration by the Executive Chef and the Maître D followed by tour of the galley. She continued: '…Fortunately for our massive sale ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Bahamas » Nassau November 8th 2015

As we arose this morning to allow the early morning light to enter our cabin, we could see something that we haven’t seen for almost one week: Land! How those intrepid ancient mariners must have felt to have seen a sight such as the Bahamas looming on the horizon. The dull sky was becoming bluer by the minute. Clouds loomed off in the distance; but, here we appeared to be entering paradise. The deep blue and greenish aqua of the seas close to shore were accented impeccably by narrow slivers of white sandy beaches and the green that crowned them. Leaning out over the rail I could see that I was not the only one peering to get a glimpse of Nassau as we approached its waterways. Already impressive resorts could be seen ashore. Sharon instantly ... read more
