Trying to work out where I last got to with my blog has been quite a challenge as I haven’t updated it for over a month. A lot of great things have happened in the last few weeks and I have been rereading my travel journal to remind myself of everything I have been doing. The last entry I wrote was when a friend got back from a guiding trip and that seems like a long time ago. Since then a lot has changed as I moved in with two girlfriends, the other volunteers I was working with left and I have been working up at the farm a lot more. The past few weeks have flown by. Have had so many things to keep myself busy with, from a PADI course, to surfing, sailing and meeting lots of new people. The diving was amazing. I ended up doing my four dives over two days at the weekend so I wasn’t missing any time at Fundar and my ears were a lot better, I didn’t have the same trouble with them as on my first dive. I just made sure I descended really slowly and if they started to hurt my instructor would pull me up a metre or so to stop the pain and we would go down again. After the trip to Isabela I decided to spend a few weeks in Santa Cruz to save some money before I venture over to the other islands or possibly take a cruise. Was nice to have relaxing weekends and spend time with friends and to visit the beaches around Puerto Ayora. Camping on one of the beach in the East of the island was an interesting experience as there were swarms of mosquitoes who decided they would bite me and only me. I therefore solely took the bites for 5 people which resulted in one of my hands swelling up so I was unable to clench it. Santa Cruz has started to feel like home. I moved into a small one bedroom apartment last monday and have been living there for just over a week. After the drama of trying to find it on my first evening i think i now have it pretty sussed. I also got myself a mode of transport in the form of a rickety old bike that i am borrowing off a local so can now get around easily. At the office i have been doing a variety of things over the past week, from checking the data from the children's questionnaires to organising the schedule for the farm. Wednesday 3rd September Well i managed to get to the islands! After 5 flights i arrived on Baltra Island's very basic airport. After panicking about not having $100 to pay the entrance fee i managed to scrape together just enough change to pay it and i followed the crowds towards a bus that took us down to a boat for a short trip across to Santa Cruz. There I saw the first iconic image of Galapagos in the form of a sea lion sat on a buoy watching us sail past. We eventually arrived in Puerto Ayora, where i had a brief panic as no one was there to meet me.
