We met with Kathy from the Arizona Game & Fish Department, where she took us into the Kaibab National Forest. We began the tour with a few photo opportunities along the scenic south rim of the Grand Canyon. Following our brief stop, we went into the educational center where Kathy gave us some information about the California Condors. Here are a few facts to nibble on: (1) the California condor is named this because they were predominantly in California, (2) they mate for life, reproducing only every other year because both the male and female stay at home with the young for about 16 months and (3) the condor is often confused with the turkey vulture, but has a much longer wing-span and has a white triangle on its underside, while the turkey vulture has ... read more

Today’s breakfast buffet was incredible. We found it in Henderson en route to the Hoover Dam. What a remarkable scene. The kids spirits were kind of down when we arrived to the dam because everyone was tired, but most found it interesting. Unfortunately, Tom has been fighting a cold, so his experience was not as enjoyable as it could have been. The rest of this day was spent in the car driving to the Red Feather Lodge. We go to the Grand Canyon tomorrow. Boy, the temperature sure dropped as we climbed in elevation. ... read more

Unfortunately, he realized this after the fact and had to rummage through the garbage with the bus boy. Let’s just hope he sterilized it before putting it back into his mouth. After breakfast, we finally got the chance to prove our climbing prowess. At first we thought that the Red Rock trail was a piece of cake, but then we climbed like we had never climbed before. You will have to look at the pictures to see us about half-way up until our legs felt like Jell-0. However, some of the students took to the mountain like a duck takes to the water. Still others, were not cut out for climbing and were happy to see ... read more

Exhausting Adventureworld (the indoor amusement park inside our hotel) was a hit with all. The students seem to be impressed by the enormous size of the hotel. After checking out all of the stuff inside we decided to take a journey down the strip. All the students were troopers because it was a LONG WALK (And we didn’t even walk the entire length). Boy, do our feet hurt Here are some individual highlights - Sam Gentz bought a real foot long hot dog for $0.99. Let’s just say that her stomach rebelled a little after eating that beast. Torren and Jaspreet had a close encounter with a celebrity (Britney Spears) as she was shopping in her private session at Dolce & Gabbana. Blake had never seen so many nice cars (all of the Italian imports ... read more
