Congrats Hey dude,
The blogs were awesome. Amazing trip you pulled off...Look forward to catching up with you upon your triumphant return to the PNW.

ouch Glad you are still alive, I was beginning to wonder (and glad I didn't know you were hiking BY YOURSELF when I was wondering...!) - and good luck with your ass...!
Good luck climbing the mountain! My best friend did it years ago, and she'd never climbed a mountain before, so it's doable... but I'd sure never try it myself :)
Kilimanjaro My cousin hiked to the top of Kilimanjaro when she was 28 with an REI group, met a 42 yr old German surgeon and married him. It's supposed to be an amazing trip so I'll be interested to hear what you think! Oh, and watch out for meeting people on the trip - Kim is now 42 herself and divorcing the surgeon!
florence Funny, I had sort of the same first impression of Florence, and we also went there straight from the Cinque Terre. One of my favorite restaurants IN THE WORLD is in Florence, though - wish I would have thought to tell you about it before you left!!! I'm a rare person who actually loved Rome more than Florence - hope you have fun there! And watch out for the crazy mopeds!
Bona notte I actualy took Italian in highschool and college, but I'd probably resort to the same few phrases that you are! Have fun in Florence! Our friends thought it was the best Italian city by far.
Happy Birthday Been going to Gimmelwald for 20+ years. Wine, hot tub, and the view, hell who cares how old you are? When I did Schlithorn there was no hot tub only Big Beers @ Walters. Have Fun
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Grüße mein Freund! I don't know Swiss, but I bet they speak German too! Happy Birthday! I like your idea - I hope to be in Italy a year from now for my next birthday, so I hope you can give us ideas! Travel safe!
Happy Birthday! Loving these blog entries.... thanks so much for sharing your adventures.
And yeah, I can think of much worse things to do with a law degree :):):)
aaah Switzerland! Finally looked it up, we stayed in Murren. So sad you aren't getting good weather! Also looked up our hikes, probably nothing like the crazy hikes you're doing - we went Kleine Scheidegg to Mannlichen, and took funicular up to Allmendhubel and hiked north face trail back down to Murren. Incredible views - and loved all the bells on the cows! Enjoy your last day there, and enjoy the Cinque Terre! My favorite part of Italy!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Happy Birthday Doug, I knew you'd love it at higher altitudes! If you can swing it, another thing I'd highly recommend is the train up to Jungfraujoch - so incredibly beautiful (but touristy). You can hike from the lookout up to another small building to have a yummy hot bowl of soup at the highest point in Europe. Can't wait to see all your photos!!
