Today thankfully Nate was able to get into the dentist to fix the crown that he had lost the day before. Thank you to the Marion RV campground host being gracious enough to let us stay on the site for a couple hours over check out time. Thankfully we were still able to get back on the road by 1:00. The drive through St Louis was a little precarious since we hit during rush hour. We finally did get to our campsite. We paid a bit extra so that we could relax by the water, however, we did not plan to find the truck battery dead after lunch/dinner. The first Walmart we went to did not have the battery in stock. By the time we arrived at the second Walmart it was getting very late, and ... read more

We headed out for a long day. We began with an hour drive to Garden of the Gods in Illinois coined the “Grand Canyon” of Illinois. We spent half the day exploring the observation trail. The trail is made of natural sandstone, has many high cliffs, and opportunities for photo. Nate and Daisy really enjoyed climbing over and under the large stones. I would suggest wearing bug spray and sunscreen. After this we drove down to the General Outpost to enjoy a cold treat and pictures with Big Foot Statue and the Big Foot Family Carvings. We went back to the trailer for lunch and quick visit with our puppies. Then we headed to the Tunnel Hill bike trail that takes you along an abandoned railway. I really believe that Nate could have spent an entire ... read more

Today we decided it was time to slow it down. We woke early, I worked remotely again this morning, and then we took a leisurely walk through the Old Stone Fort Campground. One cool thing that Nate was interested in was the old trestle bridge that was once the main entrance to the campground but is now a walking path between the campground and main park. The view from the bridge was pretty. The river was full of algae, many turtles and bass were swimming round, and a few bumble bees were flying around. I particularly enjoyed birding. We found an eastern bluebird, Carolina wren, tufted titmouse, and red shouldered hawk. I was on the lookout for a summer tanager, but only could hear the bird from a high distance. We were so lucky yesterday to ... read more

Thankfully we gained an hour today driving because we used it. We drove from Atlanta, GA to Manchester, TN, then hiked the Encloser Trail at Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park. We were a bit slower due to my recently hurt ankle (tendon) and the doggies (ok really old Mandy). The trail was marked as moderate, but in many locations, it was very treacherous and sketchy. If you would have tripped, you easy could have fallen to your death. There was one location that Daisy made me literally climb a mountain with Nates assistance of pushing my ass as I climbed with pain in my ankle. ? The trail contained the remains of an old stone fort, 3 waterfalls, a dam, and a field of beautiful wildflowers. You think we would have stopped here, but we ... read more

We returned to High Falls State Park on our way out of Florida since we enjoyed the park so much during Spring Break 2022. The park is just south of Atlanta right off I-75, so it makes a great place to stop over when leaving Florida. I am surprised that we did not find this gem until earlier this year. The tumbling cascades have 2 trails one is an easy boardwalk to view the falls from above. The other trail is a figure “8” shaped loop along the water and into the woods which takes you down to the lower portion of the falls with a few nice viewpoints. The waterfall is visible from the road above along with the dam across the street. The campground is down the road from the falls. On the way ... read more

Before heading back to work I took a few days at home to unload the trailer, do 10 loads of wash, clean up the house and visit with family, oh and cry (I am so excited to see my friends, but getting back to reality is hard to face). Nate was fortunate enough to have two and half weeks left to get things in order. After visiting with friends we decided to post some common questions, but if you have more please send a comment. Fun Facts Our total trip was almost eight weeks long starting on June 11, 2016 and returning home on August 4, 2016. Once leaving Florida we drove in 18 states. We drove about 10,000 miles, costing $2,128.13 for fuel, stopping 66 times for fuel. With only one day without any driving ... read more

Coming down into Florida we are usually stuck with I-75, but this time we took US-98, this is a nice easy drive with ample places to stop for food and fuel. Once in Crystal River we stayed at Rock Crusher Canyon ($22/night Passport) since we have enjoyed our stay there in the past. The park offers a screened in pool and hot tub, Wi-Fi, Cable, activities and friendly staff. The best part of this park is there are many large shaded campsites similar to what you would see at a state park. Our stop here was mostly to visit with Nate’s aunt and take her to dinner for her birthday.... read more

As I said in the previous blog we really scored at this campground, our view is amazing and everything is so nice here. We drove through town, purchased some bait, visited the bottle house, the world's smallest police station which was a telephone booth (see pics), and saw Crooked River Lighthouse from the outside. Once we returned we all went to the beach to hang out and fish. The sand was surprisingly white and powdery. The best part is since it is a private beach you are able to bring your pet. Daisy was ready to come home at dark since the bugs were driving her crazy, but Nate could not bring himself to leave the beach. He caught so many nice size fish and a sting ray too, but unfortunately none were keepers. Nate finally ... read more

Today we continued south on I-65, the drive itself was not too bad, but there were a few accidents that were causing 30 minute plus delays so we had to get off the interstate and allow Google Maps to reroute us. We drove straight through, other than stopping for gas which allowed us to get to the next campground early, Cherry Blossom RV ($22/night Passport). This campground has the fastest Wi-Fi I have seen on the entire trip and cable, oh and it is by any restaurant you could desire. We finally got to eat our O'Charley's, after that we took Daisy to JcPenney's to finish off her school shopping and then back to the trailer to catch up on the blog. It is nice to not worry to much about the route we take now ... read more

Today when we woke up it was raining heavily so we went to the front desk of our campground (Yogi Nashville) to look into staying another night which we thought would be no problem since the park was not even half full, but they would not allow us to stay another night at $35 (passport rate) they were going to charge $70 so we decided to pack up and move on. The drive itself was not too bad once we got out of Nashville, but we did see multiple accidents. I would like to say that was due to the rain, but I believe that some of that is just normal in Nashville, we are so glad to be out of there, if you can avoid the area with your travel trailer I would. We drove ... read more
