Caerdydd (Wales) to London via Lincoln Overview This commentary describes the last 10 days in our month long journey - that part of the journey from Wales to London via the Midlands, Lincolnshire, and Oxfordshire. As we’d explained in our previous two ‘travelogues’, (1st) we’d arrived at Stansted Airport and travelled to Cambridge for a couple of days, before collecting a car and heading north-east to Norwich via Ely - after which we turned south to London, and (2nd), travelled on via Wiltshire (the Cotswolds), Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucestershire to Wales. This segment of our journey takes us from Caerdydd (Cardiff), across the 'top' of the range - the Brecon Beacons NP - through mid-Wales, into Herefordshire - the English Midlands - centring on Birmingham. We then travelled through various Midland counties to Lincolnshire. ... read more

London to Trefynwy (Wales) via Lands End Overview This commentary describes 12 days in our month long journey - that part of the journey from London to Wales via Wiltshire (the Cotswolds), Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Gloucestershire. As we’d explained in our last ‘travelogue’, we’d arrived at Stansted Airport a week earlier, and travelled to Cambridge for a couple of days, before collecting a car and heading north-east to Norwich via Ely - after which we turned south to London. This segment of our journey takes us from London to Wiltshire (on the M4) and the Cotswolds, then on backroads through a little of Hampshire to Dorset and Devon before landing in Cornwall. The south-western part of England comprises rolling hills and engaging towns. The coastline of this area faces the English Channel and is ... read more

Stansted to London This ‘travelogue’ describes that part of our journey from arrival at Stansted Airport (nth London) to our ‘entry’ to London (some 6 days later) via Cambridgshire, Norfolk (East Anglia) and Suffolk. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, click it to enlarge. In Flight We departed KL airport about an hour late - around 4pm. The AirAsia A340 plane had been procured from Air Canada and was pained in the livery of a Canadian football team (doesn‘t quite look right at KL airport). The pilot announced we’d be travelling over Iran, Khazekastan (or one of those ’stans), the Black Sea, Holland and into Stansted. He advised that the flight would take 14 hours, and most would be in daylight (sadly he wasn’t too good on that one). ... read more

Prologue With a couple of days to kill between Gold Coast & London (the el cheapo flight schedules didn’t work our way) we headed to Miri (in Sarawak, Borneo). When booking, we’d not a clue about the place. Later, we read up and came to the conclusion it was merely an ’industrial’ town servicing the oil industry. How wrong we were. As always, if you want to 'see' more detail in an accompanying picture, click it to enlarge. The Journey We left GC early and had a 4 hour layover @ KL before connecting to the Miri flight. We hopped onto the LCCT - KLIA shuttle and had a wander around KLIA, also enjoying aircon, a few beers and a meal. Eventually, after a longish day, we arrived into a pitch black Miri. Hello This is another of 'our' travel stories. It describes our journey from our arrival in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand in April 2009, as we journey east through northern Laos and on to Vietnam. In this 'blog', we 'connect' many of the emails we sent while away and add further material to make it a comprehensive 'whole' of our journey. We write of our travel enjoyment/s within part of northern Thailand, our travel overland to Laos and our involvement with the wonderful adventure known as the "Gibbon Experience", our time in and around Luang Nam Tha, and our journey to the World Heritage city of Luang Prabang for the Laotian New Year festival known as Pii Mai Laos. The story continues by depicting our departure from Luang Prabang in a slow river boat up part ... read more

Hello This is another of 'our' travel stories. 'Our', being 'us' - Judy & Bruce It describes our journey from our arrival in HaNoi (in October 2008) to our departure some 6 weeks later from Siem Reap. For us, we wanted to 'do' the tourist circuit from HaNoi, through the north-west, Halong Bay, and south through the tourist 'icon' places. That we had a visa for 4 weeks, but gave ourselves 6 weeks in the region, we decided to head over the border to Cambodia: essentially to view the Angkor ruins Essentially, we travelled what is called the 'banana pancake route'. This is a derogatory term used for popular travel routes as identified in Lonely Planet. The critics say that that westerners (or should we say 'travellers') have so stuck to the 'banana pancake route' that ... read more

Hello This is another travel story by Judy & Bruce Originally, we published this story in our 'Vietnam - Cambodia Journey' blog (which was one journey). But, with two countries, and a heap of photo's, we've seperated the material into two stories. We entered Hanoi in northern Vietnam in late October 2008, and followed the Banana Pancake Trail around the north of Vietnam and then down highway 1A to Saigon. If interested, you can find that blog here . Largely because we were in a mindset of Cambodia when we departed Saigon, we will 'commence' this 'Cambodia' blog from the time we departed Saigon. From Saigon We had stayed only one night at Saigon. We'd decided that after being 'up country' the big hectic city might be too muc... read more
