Monday 1 September and Tuesday 2 September If it's Tuesday it must be Barcelona! I have always wanted to say that. Being on holiday is like being in a time warp not knowing when or where we are. We finally arrived in Barcelona after 2 days of travelling starting with the 5 hour ferry ride from Barra to Oban, a 3 hr drive from Oban to Glasgow and then the 2 flights today to get us to Barcelona at lunchtime. We also went from 13 degrees to 33 degrees. Talk about a shock to the system! We had a well earned [View Full Entry]

August 29 - Inverness to Oban (Geoff) Time to head south! Set the GPS (now we have changed settings and have a not so stern male pommie telling us where to go) and left Inverness at 9.15 heading for Oban on the west coast. this will be our overnight stop before we get onto the ferry for Barra. As we headed south, we drove alongside Scotland's famous Loch Ness. The Loch is 23 miles (about 36 km) long but only ½ to ¾ mile wide. Still it is very deep - in parts up to 700 feet and contains a lot [View Full Entry]

Saturday 30 August - Oban to Barra (Geoff) Today is a quiet day lolling around town in Oban before we get on the ferry for Barra. Once again we went to the shops and I am now really worried as I came away with a couple of purchases and Sue ended up empty handed. This is almost unheard of and I can only assume that I am in for big trouble once we reach Rome and Paris. I might even have to go back to work to pay off the Visa card, depending how hard she hits it!!! At lunch time [View Full Entry]

August 27 - Off to Inverness (Geoff) Well, it was time to leave Edinburgh and head north to Inverness. left about 10.00 am so the traffic was not a great problem. Still took about 20 minutes to clear the city and get onto the A9 but once there it was set the cruise control and away we were. Stopped off in Perth (sounds strange doesn't it?) for some morning tea and a short bit of retail therapy - strange how I was the only one who bought anything - thought that was Sue's job! Off on the road again but only [View Full Entry]

Tuesday 26 August 2008 I have decided I definitely don't like big cities! Today we went to 3 different places - The Brittania Yacht, Stirling Castle and Falkirk Wheel. This required that we drive through 2 sets of peak hour traffic in a city that has lots of road works. I don't think we could have made it without our terse Brittish madam who ordered us to follow directions. Mind you when we didn't, instead of suggesting we turn around she fell silent (sulking) and finally made new suggestions. I particularly liked the large screen of the GPS which provides lots [View Full Entry]

August 23 2008 - Canberra to Sydney to London to Edinburgh Even though we both knew the itinerary, it seemed to take forever to travel from home to our first stop in Edinburgh. We are really grateful to John and Paula who picked us up from home and drove us and our 40kg luggage to the airport. Time for a quick cuppa and a chat before we headed for the security gates and the first of many times we had to extract the laptop, declare that we weren't carrying liquids and waiting to hear the beep go off as we passed [View Full Entry]
