the knackered sailor - paul jones

paul jones Hi there, my name is Paul and I'm from Australia (for those browsing) which may well be the best place to live in the whole world. But one has to visit the rest.

The "knackered sailor" title was given to me by my beautiful daughter along with the cap as a birthday present. I was knackered but I got a lot better.

This trip is a true adventure. Sailing a beautiful 49' Jeanneau from the UK to the Caribbean with 3 fellow sailors. The real start date is 17 October but the UK connection, David, Ian and Joe have been doing lots of work. Thanks blokes! I'll try to keep the blog up to date when we have access to the Net.

Last trip:
This trip I'm travelling to the UK, France and Morocco with quick stop overs in Hong Kong and Bangkok. I can't resist that Thai cooking so what better place to have a few days rest on the way home.

I will be able to include London, Paris, Edinburgh, Dubin, Casablanca and Marrakech to name a few to the "been there, done a bit of that" party talk.

It is wonderful to be able to stay with friends and freinds of friends as I travel. Thanks to you all for making it a better time. I think the Morocco segment with Jodie will be a fabulous experience and may be my favorite. Be prepared for the photos.

Also, thanks to those who have assisted me to get this far and especially to Mum for her special gift. Everything will make a great experience even better.

It will be a fabulous life expanding journey and will iin some ways assist me to ease into the next phase in my life on my yet to be found yacht. I hope you enjoy sharing my journey and will come and see the best of the photos in June.

Hi all, I'll be on a sailing course this week in Wales then heading solo south, with Spain in my sights. With the true objective of the trip now shot to bits I don't think I'll be adding more to this blog. Hopefully there will be lots ot talk about when we eventually catch up again after I return either December or as planned in early January. Cheers the Knackered Sailor celebrating 5 bonus years today. [View Full Entry]

The internet crashed as I put up the last entry. I'm satying at Betty and David's beautiful home ''Wits End'' in Derby. Last night after 25 hours plane and airport stopovers David and I when to the local for Mastons Pedigree Beer on tap without bubbles. Sounds bad but tasted good. I finally hit the sack after 17500klms and very little sleep. Friday was a quiet day checking out th supermarkets to see what was available for the provisioning. I think it would be an easier task in Oz withour speciality Asian stores but we will have plenty to make eating [View Full Entry]

Well I finally got away from Oz. I had a little surprise from a nasty lawyer the day before but hopefully sorted. The weekend was great; saw the kids, Saturday night with great friends, a little mischief but not enough and a great BBQ with Rhys. Monday at Mum's new lake property and meeting her neighbours was tops. The flight over was good and bad. The plane from Oz was packed and it it hadn't been for teh beautiful German woman that I slept with I would have hated it. From Dubai to London was a new A380; a fantastic plane. [View Full Entry]

Welcome to my blog. This trip I will try to keep you up to date. On holidays I usually get up and go and by the time the day is over I am too tired to think about keyboards and uploading photos. But this adventure will provide for some time to quietly do this along the way. My photos will be good and hopefully get better along the way. The journey starts with a short trip to Brisbane on 2.10.2009 to see 2 of my kids, my Mum and some close friends and Anzac, a very special dog. Seven October is [View Full Entry]

Hong Kong and Kowloon continued to provide a great reminder of eastern Asian cities. In a very rare turn of events the weather didn’t do me favours. I was tempted away from Victoria Peak to a Irish bar. That in itself was not a problem however the next day left Victoria Peak in cloud. But photo opportunities are forever about and I made do. The light show was enhanced by the cloud and I managed to get a heap of interesting photos. Many thanks to Chris for the room and wonderful company. [View Full Entry]

Preparing to leave Hong Kong at 4am to fly to London is not the best plan. When you add up the daylight traveling time the day grows to about 26 hours. But on the positive you don’t get jet lag. The trip in clear skies flying to the north of the Himalayas is stunning. Then the Gobi desert with snow covered mountains. Europe was under clouds so missed seeing anything from before Moscow to the North Sea. London is great. I did the hop on hop off bus tour to see all the tourist sites. It is an easy city to [View Full Entry]

day three Asia » Hong Kong » Kowloon
well i got that little phone problem fixed; some nasty local phone company called sunday had hijacked me somehow and i wasn't on their rip off list. but i'm back with CSL and it appears to be working. the rich must love this place. the beautiful sculpture and art for sale is unbelievable. so are the prices. i must still look like a player as a pakistani hash dealer asked me if i wanted to purchase some good pakistani black hash. i bought a counterfeit watch instead, seemed like a safer thing to do. for those at work, there are more [View Full Entry]
