Florence is SO wonderful
Indeed a day is about right for Florence. Get to the museums early or be prepared to wait in line as you said. Viewing the magnificent statue of David is worth the wait. so powerful, masterful. One can marvel or drool at the shops on the Ponte Vecchio. Walking along the Arno and stopping in a park to people-watch can be quite entertaining, too. It was a pleasant surprise to find the tombs of Galileo, Michelangel & Dante in Santa Croce. Well worth the visit.
