Well, here I am... sitting at my laptop on my desk, in my room, at my new house in Honduras. It still seems weird to say that. Before I type this long entry, you should all know that I will be writing fairly detailed entries that could be very long and frequent. I'm doing this as it's my documentation of my trip for my own keepings, and a few people have requested it to be so. If you do not feel like reading the long entry, don't. lol... just don't complain about me doing them... lol. So, the entire journey began lastnight when Ginny, Mom, and I went to a hotel in Mississauga for the evening. It was nice. We drank wine, watched TV and just enjoyed each other's company. Wake-up call was 3:30am. I think ... read more

So, it's all becoming real. Yesterday, I had people over to the house and then lastnight was out at the bar with more people. I said goodbye to people who I now won't see for a year. Thank you to all those who came out. It was a great day/evening. I'm about halfway packed. Everything except for my clothes is sitting in my suitcases. I think you'd all be fairly proud of me too... I'm not even worried about having enough room for everything! I'm not gonna lie though, I'm scared. I know that I need to do this though... it'll be an amazing experience that I'm hoping will be the start of so much more. Thank you for supporting me and for leaving little comments on my entries thus far. It's comforting to know that ... read more

A Week today I'll be in Honduras. Scary thought, but also very exciting. At this time actually, we'll be waiting at the airport in Miami to board the plane for Honduras. I still can't believe I'm leaving. I'm meeting people for lunches and dinners, hugging them and saying goodbye, but I still feel like I'm just going for a month or so... a whole year. I can't fathom it at the moment. I haven't really started packing yet. Today is the day I begin that. Up until now I've been so busy uploading all of my CD collection onto my new laptop. I just don't want to have to pack any of them and it'll be so much easier to have them on my computer. Yesterday I revised my camp packing list for Honduras. I'm scared ... read more

For many of you, you'll remember the ordeal Jill and I went through in making our decision to go to Honduras. For those of you who don't know, let me fill you in... We were offered a position at a school in Monterrey, Mexico on a Thursday night. They were offering us $1400 USD/month to teach there. It's a private, catholic school where we'd be required to wear uniforms and I'd be teaching strictly English to MANY classes from preschool to grade 3. Something didn't feel right about this school and I prayed that if I was meant to be somewhere else, something else would come up. Friday morning Jill called me and told me to check my e-mail. 10 minutes later I was unsure of whether to laugh or cry. We had been offered a ... read more

Lastnight, Jill and I met our first staff member that we'll be working with in Honduras. The evening was interesting to say the least. It started with Jill coming to pick me up at my apartment in Mississauga. We were then supposed to go meet Jeff in Toronto for dinner at a Chinese Restaurant downtown. The only problem was, when Jill stopped her car to get out and buzz me down, her car wouldn't start again. We called her parents at the cottage and were told to jiggle around the wires to the battery since those had been a problem before. Now, picture Jill and I with the manual out, looking for the battery... lol. The car wouldn't start so we called CAA. They said they'd be there in 30 minutes at the latest. We called ... read more

Honduras it is... It's been a very hard decision and a lot of thinking, praying, discussing was had. Comayagua, Honduras... Jill and I will be teaching at a school called 'Escuela Bilingüe Honduras'. Grade 3 teaching English, Math, Science, Health, and Arts & Crafts. Jill is teaching the same thing but to grade 5s. The website is Honduras School Website in case you'd like to check it out. If you click under the photo where it says 'Full Image', you can see Comayagua, where Jill and I will be. I thought that I'd try out this blog and see if it would be a good one to use while I'm away. I definately want to keep a record of all my travels and experiences online so that I can share them with my friends and family. ... read more
