Grad School
Wow, very interesting update on your life. However, I must tell you that if you don't like "working overtime without pay, [.....] of people who have an ownership stake in the business.", then DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT enter graduate school. Let me know how the move goes. Or update here and let us all know. PLEASE!?!?

yup
You're right, Tubby, I was misinformed. The Japanese occupied Thailand from 1941 to 1945.

Shame
Your lack of commitment to the tasks at hand is obvious and it brings shame upon all your friends and family.

I'm glad to hear that a wonderful feast can still lift your spirits. Marshmallows only belong on cocoa or in s'mores, in my opinion. I did make something called 'candied' yams, but it had brown sugar, maple syrup and butter, no actual candy. I think it's really nice that you put so much effort into this project. It's surprising to hear that the parents were so noisy. Can you send them to the principals' office next time?

don't miss it that much anymore
I think I got the hard-core, long-term travel bug out of me, but now and then I do want to go to fancy hotels in well-developed cities and enjoy expensive meals and drive around in comfortable cars... but that probably doesn't count as "travel". How's the air quality and environment? Do people talk alot about global warming and other pollution?

Re: how are you
Hi Mike, I'm doing great. Thanks for staying on top of my travels; I hope it's entertaining. I bet you're feeling a little nostalgic for your own days of world exploration, huh?

Re: Beverages
Well, as far as cold beverages go, not really. You can't order water at a restaurant, because you don't know if it's from the tap or not. You can order a bottle of water if you can get them to understand you, which sometimes I can't, and even them it will probably be warm because Chinese believe drinking cold things is bad for you. So your options are to go to a store beforehand and get some overly-sweetened tea, or a bottle of water, or drink hot tea at the restaurant, which is also probably from the tap but at least it's been boiled, which means that all the chlorine and bacteria are gone, but the heavy minerals are still there which will probably constipate you. Short answer: no.

Beverages
Question: Do they have anything to drink in China besides beer?
