Thanks for the Chuckles I have just discovered your site and it reminded me so much of my years in Taegu (1984-1996). I intend to read more of your entries but I've discovered how much I rather miss Korea! Who would have thought?
Minesweeper My personal Minesweeper best, since you asked, is 368, but I actually deleted all of the game files on my computer, because it was affecting my work and sleep. Now I play with Microsoft Paint instead, editing my pictures to put face-paint on myself.
Keep on Bloggin' This blog is a great way for us to live vicariously through your adventures. I always get a little thrill when the email announcing a new entry arrives in my inbox. BTW, what's your personal best on Minesweeper? I finally got it down to 160...
Cool, Dude Hey, I'm inspired. I'd like to go and immerse myself in another culture and take cool photos and send them to people and stuff. I'm so glad you are finding your experience enriching, and that you are learning how to tell the kids not to "dong-chim" you! I'm way glad to hear that your time off the blog has been full. Life is what's happening all around us when we are sitting at our computer screens, and to miss the rich banquet there to feast on in favor of sucking the glass teat of the monitor would be a crying shame. You go, man!
A Perfectly Reasonable Response Hey, I don't know, it sounds completely logical to me to go toward the risk of death by the elements! That is, after all, where all the cool shit is happening! ("Mama said never to look into the eyes of the sun...But Mama, that's where the fun is...") The preceding bit of illuminating wisdom was originally contributed by Manford Man and his Earth Band, back in days lost to paleontological antiquity--okay, sometime in the early '70s. I think. Anyway, it was an awfully long time ago, and I was in full flight from reality in that era. I am so jazzed you got to experience a Huge Fucking Phenomenon of Nature in safety. Sort of safety. Woohah!! --Cait
On the Korean-Mexican Connection Cait, you may have something there - I was teaching my students about illness and learned that the Korean for diarrhea is, phonetically, "salsa." I couldn't make something this strange up.
Fun pix Hi -- great pix on this one...am having trouble with your email and my msgs keep getting bounced -- hope you see this soon! We love and miss you (and are jealous of your adventures!). Mom
Did you know...? City Temple does indeed look Mexican food-y. Mexico has sporadically experienced immigrations from Korea. One such immigrant, a lady known as "La Chichiolina", had a far-reaching impact on the cuisine of Mexico, primarily having to do with introducing cilantro and other Asian flavors to said cuisine. Ha! Six years of Spanish has not gone for naught, after all!
I want to know the story, but you could probably just email it to me... when are the kids going to write... and that kid IS pretty effing awesome....
...as was Dashboard. Whoot.
Bluuahhh!! Blog bulimia is lovely therapy for hypergraphic folks like myself. I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds a little blog vomit relaxing. Thanks for sharing, dude!

Thanks, I needed that I have laughed out loud multiple times during the reading of this entry. My neighbors, already dubious of my sanity, now believe me to be a full-on cackling loony. You even made me throw up a little--er, that's a compliment. To the dickens with Dickens, I like it when you write in your own authentic voice. Cool pics, too--and you are a far, far better man than I am for braving the beach at the peak of human convergence! Holy "Shin Shi--" never mind.
Dog soup I haven't eaten dog soup, and I probably won't, sadly. I just can't bring myself to eat something that has been intentionally tortured for me.
As for understanding Korean culture, uh, no. But I'm working on it.
Bitch-tit Buddha .. I have seen this resturant from the subway. The stack of jars got my attention, too. But I wonder if you know what kind of food this resturant serves. The red colored Korean word on the right side of board means dog meat soup.
I hope that you understand Korean culture.
you're right..... ....the comments on the pictures made it all worth while!! ;) God I hate when computers act up, screw technology....or something along that line anyway!
Okay, that was about it! Nice pictures as well...not just the comments! Hope you're having a good holiday! =)
Regards Eva
Fear the wrath of the super rad, the super rad. Andrew, I'm so excited for penpal-ing. Whoot. And I'm afraid that I am absolutely blown away by that picture of Sarah... looks like my kind of kid. Also, it appears that she's something of a fashionista.
Thanks for letting me do this, big brother.
I miss you, and I love you like nuts.
Ah, how I have missed you... Your descriptive talent is, truly, peerless. "Corpulent concentration camp guard," indeed!! Also, incidentally, I hear tell that even those who devote themselves to the discipline of breaking shit, hurt after doing so with their heads. Man, I am envious of your spa trip! Spas in the States cost considerably more Won, I say wanly. Keep on bloggin', dude!
Letting the Comments Slide Too right. How's about some of that Lady in Red action?
If the ship's all going to come crashing down, what's the difference between being in the crow's nest, being below decks, or standing at the tiller? Only what they bury you in.
shave this Hey buddy!
Great blog...I agree with your mom what's next! Howz the weather? Are you making freinds. Have you adopted a Korean Wolverine? What is the morale of the youth you are teaching or are you teaching adults? In which case I am not so interested in their morale. :0) As I am the kid person. Wondering about the culture and your Darwin like abilities to adapt. Thinking about you and hoping all is well. You are loved and missed.

Just passing through
Hey Andrew. It's been a while. Just wanted to tell you how cool that picture of the meditating wrapper is. Anyway...take care.
