Actually the doctor fish is Turkish in origin. In its natural habitat they are a tourist attraction in Turkey. What you saw is a commercialized and Koreanized version, I believe. You can of course get a regular pedicure in Korea if you want it.
Seems like you went to the seedier parts around Gamgnam subway station. The area around Apgujeong and Chongdam is much more upscale.
Interesting blog. Keep up the good work. ;-)
I Love It! I have been laughing so hard at the Dr Fish pictures -- you and Laura's faces are hilarious. I have to admit it gives me the creeps to think about putting my feet in for dinner - that is part of the reason I won't swim in lakes. Matt is my hero - he seem to be the only one taking it like a champ. I'm so glad your there safely and I can't wait to see the pictures with your family.
Hey Sister!!! Hey Sis!! I'm glad to see that your blog is finally up and running! I can't wait to hear more about how teaching is going and if you're picking up on the language now that you've been there a few weeks. We need to discuss times we can Skype!!
luv ya-
Laura
