PARIS!! We arrived at 7.30am after the longest flight ever - we managed to sleep from about 10 pm, although it was quite a broken sleep, and then they woke us up at 4am to serve breakfast. I don't really feel like breakfast at 4am, but we managed to stay awake after that anyway. We had been given separate seats on the plane, but the guy next to Danny was nice enough to swap with me. We had great seats too, they were right up the front of the economy section so we had extra leg room, and we were on the left side, and had only our two seats in our row, so it was really easy to get in and out. Danny was also kind enough to offer me his window seat so I ... read more

Day Seven was handbag heaven! And not just handbags, pretty much everything I could ever wish for... I was on the biggest shopping high ever... We left the house at about 10am and caught a taxi into the city centre. We started off at Kota Raya - a small shopping complex near China Town. As it was still only 10.30, hardly any of the shops were open, so we wandered around the surrounding streets and found a Maccas! Since most of the other breakfasts we had seen involved curry, rice and mixed veggies, we decided it would be nice to have something a little bit familiar for breakfast. It was pretty much the same as it is over here, except they don't have bacon or sausage, they have chicken that looks like bacon and sausage. In ... read more

Day 6 - We left at 10 am to avoid the traffic and had a 2.5 hour drive to the Elephant Sanctuary near the Genting Highlands. It was in deep rainforest and was lovely looking out of the air-conditioned car at all the deep shades of green. It wasn't quite so lovely when we arrived and had to get out of the car! We had been expecting slightly colder weather as the Highlands are meant to get a lot colder than K.L. but it was so incredibly hot! We got there nice and early so we would be sure of a ticket to ride the elephants, as there are only 120 a day. We did get tickets, but we then had to wait several hours until it was time for the rides to start at 2pm. ... read more

We left Lumut at about 9am to head to the Cameron Highlands. It didn't feel like as long of a drive as the drive to Lumut from K.L. but the mountains made me feel very sick, so I slept a lot of the way. The mountains were really beautiful. It was an incredibly bendy road, following the mountain which was completely covered in thick rain-forest. It was so green and dense. We stopped for lunch at a small town that was pretty much based on the fact that strawberries grow well there. I don't think they can grow them anywhere else in Malaysia because it is far too hot, but it is a lot cooler up in the Cameron Highlands, so they just cover every inch of the land with farming. They have little greenhouses everywhere ... read more

We started off Day 3 of our trip by packing up the car and heading to Lumut, a seaside town that acts as the port to Pangkor Island. It felt like a very long trip, but it was interesting to see some of the smaller towns we drove through on the way there. It was quite a culture shock to see some of the places people live. I probably spent most of the drive looking at the different types of houses, and wondering about how some of the houses were big and nice looking but were surrounded by lots of smaller shacks, some almost falling apart. We checked into the hotel we were staying at and it didn't take long before Danny and Peter were down in the pool enjoying the cool of the water. I'm ... read more

We have made it safely to Malaysia after a very long and boring flight - we got in at about 8pm K.L. time yesterday and saw a little bit of the outskirts of the city between getting dinner (and witnessing the largest cockroaches I have ever seen) and going to the Hilton to listen to a Filipino band who were playing there. The humidity was very, very noticeable as soon as we left the airport - we had about a five meter walk from the elevator to the car and were already sweating by the time we got there. This is currently my least favourite thing about Malaysia. I am too small to handle extreme temperatures well and I want to curl up and cry about three minutes after walking outside. Our rooms are each air-conditioned ... read more

"Organising is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, its not all mixed up." -A. A. Milne I have endured much mockery in the last week! There are only 74 days until we fly out, and 51 days of work (which, its true, is over ten weeks and probably shouldn't have caused me the alarm and concern that it did! Also it is slightly concerning that I have two countdowns going...) and I am in frenzied planning mode! Now, this is not to say I am stressed - I thrive off the joy of planning and organising, and am thoroughly enjoying learning about each place we are staying and planning where to go, what to see, and how to get there! Plus, this way I get to begin enjoying the ... read more
