2017 Alaska

My cousin Virginia called and asked if I wanted to be her substitute husband for a trip to Alaska ... Sure thing! We spent a couple of months planning long distance (we live about 1400 miles apart), with planned departure date at the end of May. I'd never been to Alaska, but was excited for a new travel opportunity.
Since she had been there previously, it was helpful to have her input on things to bring. Notably, I needed good long underwear! Virginia and her husband Steve were flying to the southeast tip of Alaska, then he would fly home and she would continue to Anchorage, where we would meet up.
Our plans included renting a car to drive around the Kenai Peninsula, with stops planned in Homer and Seward. We would then return to Anchorage, drop off the car, and catch the train to Denali. After 3 nights there, we'd take the train back to Anchorage to fly home again - 9 days plus 2 travel days! And we did a lot in that time!
