Hi! Australia? Samantha is wondering when she is going to meet her hip, world-traveling cousin. She's hoping to get some ideas of her own and break out of the daycare scene. Are you going to make us wait until next June? I guess we're not mad. We are just intensely jealous of your travels. Enjoy! We miss you! xoxox.kim + sam
Good onya Hi, I'm just surfing the net getting info on NZ before taking the big leap and going over. I live in Aus. I've backpacked in Europe, USA... your stories remind me of the spontaneous meetings of travel.. and are quite informative as well. Thanks for a great blog. I'll be Looking for work in the Wanaka area (I'm an outdoor instructor).
Sara,
Thank you for the next installment, the pic's are something to behold! That was certainly an exciting and fun packed 2 weeks on the road. I am also so surprised at how many different young people you seem to meet in the middle of no-where, how do you do that? Well, however it is, it is wonderful. Enjoy and be safe,
Fondly, Aunt Barbara
Holy Cow! You rock, Sara. I just caught up on all your entries. Trying to clean up my email...what else on Good Friday? Love hearing about all your adventures. It was only 30+years that I was there (well, not exactly THERE) myself! Good times. We are so slow-mo by comparison at home. Fortunately, we have our moments. Just a month away from running the Big Sur marathon - Hector, not me, but I'll be there. A few more months before this family travels again - to Europe. But NZ will surely need to make it's way closer to our horizons. Sounds too good! We miss you - but keep up the good work!!

Wow jeez sara it sounds like your having a blast and im so jealous of it....I sign on your blog very often to see when ur next entry will be...I cant wait for the day i can go out and do what your doing...I hope the rest of your trip remains this good
pictures woooow, those pictures are amazing. If I wasn't in a full-arm neon orange and glow-in-the-dark cast, I would be flying over there right nooooow!!
Sand Flies! SAND FLIES SUCK! I remember getting chewed on every day working at Kinloch Lodge. They dont' bug you in Wanaka? I think this trek illustrates the concept that Kiwis take their treks VERY SERIOUSLY. I think it's awesome/absolutely frightening that you were supposed to climb over Waterfall Face. Bet you coulda done it with some rope for security? Next time? As for that pic of you with the guys in Day 2 ... babe, you look short:)
Kiwi Lingo! I caught you saying "rang" and "flatmates." Haha I wonder what else you've picked up!!! Ah, we almost went to Puzzle World, but bypassed it (I think that was the point at which I was hitchhiking and couldn't get too greedy!). Glad you have a job! I might have to invest in that Icebreaker stuff for when I move out West! Oh, speaking of which, I finally accepted a job - to write for a newspaper in Rawlins, WY, not too far from Encampment if you remember. Yup; never thought I'd go back, but there I go. Miss you bunches; glad you're having a GRRREAT time!
Get me out! I went to the "mystery spot" in california that is basically like that gravity weirdness thing that you were talking about... too weird! Holland used to do their $ they way that you're talking about... it was soooo much easier! I remember from prague that they gave you the 1/2 (cent, but it's not called that, can't remember what it was) for change, but wouldn't take them... that's just weird.
TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!
Movember! Will is doing Movember here! there are all these parties and things going on with it. It sounds like such an awesome idea!!! I gave 'im 50 bucks for the cause, cuz I like men and support them sticking around as long as possible :-P. No travelblog entry is EVER too long! News for me: Monument Games was insane, Thanksgiving break to see friends and fam was much needed, a choir I'm in's concert is tomorrow night and I have 6 solos! AH And more exciting news, I'm going to Brazil in a few weeks to play on the US co-ed team in Beach Ultimate WORLDS. Yeah, crazy. I haven't gotten my visa yet, so I'm trying not to get too excited. MHUA congrats on everything. ~Ashley
Cookies?! Oh man! I went to a theater like that in Takaka (a town you absolutely HAVE to visit when you finally make it there, haha) and it was incredible!! Bean bags?! Tea and coffe?! It blew my mind, and I loved it :). I had no idea they had one like it in Wanaka!
Sounds like you're having a hell of a time out there, and it makes me all nostalgic and wistful every time I read your blogs. Get ready for summer!!!
All I Can Say Is... ...that the apple bobbing pot looks strangely familiar... I seem to be haunted by visions of those in a distinctly different location...
Sounds like a great time! Live it up while you can before you start work:) I'm jealous that you got to hang out with such celebrities as Waldo/Wally and Wolverine at your Halloween party! :-P
WOW Hey sara, its sounds like your having the time of your life and im ridiculously jealous...I wish i had your guts to pick up and move to a new place and meet new people so quickly...i guess i have to start small with the ranch...god i hope it works out...I just want you to know you have inspired me soooo much that i know what i wanna do when i get out of college...travel...long overdue...thank you and good luck i wish you all the best!!!
sweeeet Hey, looks awesome. I can't believe the All Blacks lost!!! I saw them play Fiji when I was there and they won like 172 to nothing. That's an exaggerations, but still. BLAST!
Miss You! Sara-- sounds like you're having an awesome time! Your pictures are spectacular and I'm so extrememly jealous but so incredibly happy for you!! I'm going through some SQ withdrawl but every so often I'll just look at some pictures, haha. Keep having the time of your life... I'll be thinking about yoU!!
Hiii!!!!!! Hey you!
Great to hear all about your travels. I hiked up the trail up to the top of the gondola in Queenstown.......in flip flops! Meg and I didn't think it looked that tough (probably because of the new wooden steps that starts out the trail)...we definitely lost the trail half way up and ended up half rock climbing to the top....it was pretty sweet. I'm glad that things are going well...I'm thinking of you!
"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and diffe... full info
