Back home now, after nearly 10 months of travelling. Not much seems to have changed, which is strange. Last time I wrote this blog I had just arrived in Koh Samui. The next day I had a day to kill while I waited for Courts and Harri to arrive. I was staying in a town called Chaweng beach, which has got to be one of the most touristy places that I've been, I wasn't a fan, it was a real shame because it was an amazing beach. I hired out a laser dinghy and went for a sail that afternoon which was amazing as I hadn't sailed in nearly two years. The next morning I met up with Courts and Harri. It was really good to see them after 9 months, they haddn't changed. We just ... read more

Well, I’ve left the Western world behind me and am in Asia now. I started off by flying into Singapore. The first thing I noticed about Singapore was the heat and humidity, this was at 11:00 at night and it was already unbearable. The next day me and some people I met in the hostel went for a bit of a wander round the city. We started off in China town and had some stupidly cheap and really good food from a stall in a food court. It was quite a relief from the Aussie prices. We then went to a Hindu temple in one of the streets which was pretty cool, really colourful and loads of statues. We then walked up to the CBD. This area seemed pretty up market and just like a Western ... read more

One day in Byron I did a bit of body surfing in the day and then walked up to the lighthouse for the sunset that evening which was amazing! From the lighthouse we saw about 8 whales and at one point 4 dolphins swimming with a whale. The next day I went for a bit of a surf in the afternoon, the surf was really small but the amazing thing is, however small the waves were they still barrel. Went out for my last night in Byron that night which was a good laugh. The next morning I caught a bus up to Surfers Paradise to meet my mate Craig from back home which was pretty sweet. Had a few amazing nights out there and chilled out on the beach for a fair bit. I liked ... read more

Well, been in Australia for just over 3 weeks now and really enjoying it. I started off in Melbourne. Really liked the city, probably my favourite city I've been to, the buildings are really nice, old mixed with new the trams are really good and it just has a really chilled out vibe to it. I stayed out in a suburb called St Kilda, which is basically the backpacker suburb now and is pretty nice. One night I went and saw penguins coming into the breakwater at St Kilda which was pretty amazing. Also had a couple of crazy nights out. One day me and a couple of guys I met went to see an Aussie rules game at the Etihad Stadium. It was crazy, the stadium was huge, I just wish I had a clue ... read more

Well in Melbourne now, that’s my time in New Zealand wrapped up. Really enjoyed it and had an amazing last few weeks. After I finished work I headed to Franz Josef on the West Coast. Really nice here, it’s like the West coast is stuck in a time warp or something which is really cool. All of the scenery and houses just seem to be battered by the harsh weather that it gets, wish I had a surf board for some of the completely empty beaches with really nice waves. When I was in Franz I walked out to the Franz Josef glacier which was pretty cool, its quite strange though because the glacier is surrounded by rainforest. Next I headed to Hokitika, which is right on the coast. The beach Is really cool here, with ... read more

Fjiordland and Milford Sound; Drove out to Te Anau, which is a really nice small lake side town. Then I decided to head further into Fjiordland and up to Milford Sound for a cruise. This was probably one of the hardest drives I've ever done, because its such amazing scenery its really hard to keep you eyes on the road. Eventually got to Milford Sound, which was a bit foggy unfortunately, then chilled out while I waited for my cruise. Went on the cruise which was amazing! Probably the most amazing landscape I've ever seen despite the sideways rain. The sides of the fjord are completely vertical, including Mitre peak, the highest sea cliff in the world. On the way out to the edge of the sea the weather was pretty horrible but luckily it cleared ... read more

As you probably know I’m working on a farm in New Zealand at the moment. I thought I’d just write a little bit about the farm and whats happened on it since I’ve been here. It’s a dairy farm and we milk 750 cows twice a day, through a 50 bale rotary parlour, it takes about 3 hours all together. The cows are outside all year round and they aren’t milked (dryed off) for about a month in the winter, during this time they are normally fed, hay, silage and feed crops like fodder beet and swedes. The cows calve in the spring (August-September) and last year they were having 40 calves a day on the farm, the calves have 3 days on the mother and then we start to milk her again. It takes 3 ... read more

Well been in New Zealand for nearly 4 months now and still absolutely loving it, probably more than ever at the moment. A lot has happened since my last entry so I'll warn you now, your probably in for a long read. After my last entry I hitched down to Turangi and after a day waiting for the weather to clear, walked the Tongariro alpine crossing, and also climbed Mt Ngarahoe, which is Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings films. After this I managed to hitch all the way back down to Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast where my Aunt, Judy lives. This was on christmas eve and I still wasn't feeling very christmassy, christmas just doesn't work in the summer I've decided. On christmas morning I got up and went for a swim ... read more

Well, been in New Zealand now for nearly 2 months. I started off by exploring Auckland for a day and then travelling down to Wellington to stay with my Jo and Duncan, my second cousins. I quite like both cities although I preferred Wellington, even though it hardly seemed like a city because it’s so small. After a couple of days in Wellington I headed out to the Wairarapa to begin work. I was working flat out doing long hours for about four weeks, mainly working down ground ready for planting which was pretty tiring but that’s about all there is to say about that. I’ve left there now because there isn’t really any work for about a month, I’m not sure if I’m going to go back there at the moment because I didn’t get ... read more

Well, I'm in Auckland now, left Fiji behind me after two weeks :(. Fiji started off well... on the first day i was walking along the beach and a Fijian guy callled me over, i thought he was going to tell me off for some reason, but he just handed me a beer :). After this i travelled out to a hostel calll Beachouse on the main island. It was so nice here, the facilities must have been almost 4 star and i was only paying the equivelant of 11GBP per night, and it was only 1.50GBP for a pint :) fun times. I did lots of activities while i was here including a trek through the rainforest to a waterfall which we climbed up and sat under, unfortunately it was raining that day, and the ... read more
