More activities at the Lions GOS Asia » Laos » South » Tha Khaek
More pix and activities as we spent our time at the clinic. A typical day is from 730am - walk from hotel to the site - a short 15 min walk along the scenic Mekong River then to the venue to help out in crowd control and then the various stations. Work typically ends around 4pm followed by a de-brief and then dinner at around 7.30pm. The weather is cool in the morning and nites and it was rather fun eating steamboat and hot plate without having to perspire. A luxury indeed for typical Singaporeans like us who r very used [View Full Entry]

enroute to tha khaek
we were on board the bus for around 6 hours to tha thaek. it was the first time i killed so many mosquitoes within a short period of time..in fact sam has to open the windows to let mosquitoes fly out... [more]

We arrived at around 1pm at Tha Khaek and checked in to the hotel, a modest looking dormitory facing the Mekong River. Moths were everywhere and stuck on the wall...as if it was the most natural thing to do. Clinic days start from 6.30am with breakfast then at 7.30am we went to the site and help out in various stations - until the last villager was sent off. The max no of villagers on thurs was 3663 - a pretty large figure considering that [View Full Entry]

At the GOS mission - 1st day...
We are off to Vientianne en route to Tha Khaek to work with the Lion's on the Gift of Sight programme. This programme is to enable villagers to be able to have their eyes checked, degrees corrected and if need be, get their cataract operations done at the local hospital there. It was the first time Adela, Samuel and myself were travelling together. We have never been to any GOS mission before but it sounds interesting enough for us to try together as a family. The itinerary was a bonus to us in some ways as we get to spend 3 [View Full Entry]

the picturesque San Luis lake...a man-make lake that supplies water to SF..
Yesterday was spent travelling from SF to Anaheim, LA. It was a tiring trip. The highlight of the many hours of travelling - yep around 10 hours or more (what with traffic jam the way it is at LA) was the 2.5 hrs we had at Gilroy Premium factory outlets...where many of us spent our time happily boosting the american economy with our christmas shopping. I was happy that Derek, our TSO, was so meticulous in planning for the trip that he had actually downloaded coupons that offer great discounts for our purchase!! hmmm..he's really a great guy to have on [View Full Entry]

nice and sunny here at Google...where we were received by Meredith Carroll - the staffing programs coordinator
The gals visited Google and UC Berkeley today. Google was an amazing place - even tho' i've visited it once in Mar but it's still fun to meet up with folks from Google again...after so long. Emily from Google is now expecting a boy...hmm..and of course, my travelling partner and colleague, WL, a little baby also...exciting eh?! Meredith, our host for the day, has planned a good programme for them and that includes a tour of the facilities, talks by software engineer Neha and also a showcase of how Google earth can be used by Megan Goddard, a Senior GIS specialist.
