A Trip to Mount Evans... Mount Evans is just about 1 hr and 30 minutes from Denver. It is located in Idaho Springs, CO in the Arapaho National Forest and Pike National Forest. Mount Evans is one of the "14rs" as they say in Colorado. About 53 mountains in Colorado reach the elevation of 14,000 or higher and Mt. Evans is the 14th highest. It is the highest paved road in American and also one of the closest to Denver which is why we decided to take a trip up. Also starting in October, the road from Summit Lake is closed to the peak. Our trip to Mt. Evans started early around 8:00 am. When we arrived at the entrance, we were thankful we had left early as it was already starting to get backed up. ... read more

Waiting for the call..... It all started with one phone call. A call that we had been waiting for for several months that was causing us to be anxious, nervous and excited all at the same time. This would be a game changer in our life. A new beginning and adventure. This is a big business opportunity for Jeff and he is ready to take it head on and I am just along for the ride and adventure. Our plane leaves today at 4:35 to Denver, CO where we will spend several days searching for our new "home away from home". Minnesota will always be my home. It is so bittersweet for me. Excitement for a new adventure but sad to be leaving my home, friends and family behind. But we will be back to visit ... read more

After returning from Bemidji on a Wednesday we decided to leave the motorhome packed and just repack again for another weekend of camping. We found a site open at Upper Sioux which is just under 2 hrs away from us. It's a nice park set down in a river valley by the Minnesota and Yellow Medicine Rivers. Our site was pretty spacious and open with no shade. It was a pretty hot and dry weekend too. We later realized there was no dump station at this park. You had to go into Granite City to dump. We dumped when we got closer to home at Baylor Park. We also learned that we could not get any service at our campsite so that made for many trips up to the office area where we could use our ... read more

4th of July camping trip to Bemidji Thurs. June 29, 2017: Our first trip to Bemidji. Since the 4th of July was on a Tuesday, we decided to make it a longer camping trip and go some place farther. We found an opening at Royal Oaks RV Park. The lady was very friendly and accommodating over the phone in getting us in. It was a 4 hour drive up. A longer drive than what we are used to. Arriving at the campground we noticed several others already here and also other motorhomes. We were greeted by the same friendly lady from on the phone. It's not a very large campground. Just off the main highways of 2 and 71. Our site was on 28 which was just a few sites away from the main entrance and ... read more

Thursday, June 15 2017: After just over an hour drive we arrived at Camp Maiden Rock in Morristown, Mn. We were greeted by two goats as we entered the office. A woman (maybe in her 60's) checked us in. She seemed friendly enough. The office was part of their home. We set up camp on site 16. We had a nice open area to ourselves with others behind us and across the road. It was pretty quiet on a Thursday with just a small group coming in and only a few seasonals there yet. After setting up camp we relaxed a bit and took a nap. After our R&R we sat outside for a bit on our iPads. We were getting hungry so we made a homemade pizza. After dinner we took the bikes for a ... read more

Geo: 44.3465, -95.9219Our last camping trip of the season during MEA week was at Camden State Park. Just about 3 hrs from home. We arrived around late afternoon. Our campsite was in the upper campground on site 58e. We called ahead and found that the upper campground had service and not the lower. Our site was just near the prairie trail and the Hwy (23). So you could hear the traffic from the highway. A little disappointment. The other disappointment was the fall colors. Most of the leaves had already fallen during our stay. Although it was fun to walk through the pile of leaves and hear the crackling of the leaves, the photo opportunities were lacking. Wednesday we drove around the park after setting up camp. The campground had a natural spring swimming area that ... read more

Geo: 44.5879, -94.7208Pulling into the campground early Friday evening, we see a long row of campsites on both sides with a loop at the end. The campground sits down in the Minnesota River Valley along the river bank. Sites are wooded with gravel pads. A bridge in the campground that passes over the river leads you to several hiking and horse trails and more primitive campsites. We set up camp on site 28e. First thing we did after setting up was get firewood and then drove to check out where the dump station was. It was located farther down the gravel road in the Equestrian campground. We built a fire for the evening while enjoying some drinks and snacks while trying to keep warm. It was a chilly evening with temps in the mid 30's. Downfall ... read more

Geo: 44.0714, -95.6661We spent our Labor Day weekend at Schreier's on Shetek Campground.  They were able to fit us in last minute after a cancellation.  The campground was right next to Lake Shetek State Park. Our campsite (Site #E) had a nice window view of the lake.  The campground was very nice and well maintained!  There are 90 seasonal sites and 30 weekender sites. The campground and park are in the SW part of MN in the cornfields and prairie lands.  Just down the gravel road was an old barn that was renovated into a bar and event center.  It was very cool! They even have a band on Saturday nights outdoors.  The campground is a great place for families and kids.  Lots to do there. Bring your boat to spend the day on the lake. ... read more

Geo: 45.2547, -87.0714Left for our Door County trip a day early to break up the long drive. Headed out around 12:00 (noon). Left food for the kids. Longest time being gone from them. Hopefully they survive and our house is still in tack and plants still alive. We drove for about 5 hours with a few stops to take a break on the way. We settled in at Pine Grove Campground & RV park in Shawano, WI. The place was pretty much deserted on a Monday. We had a nice quiet spot way in back along the pasture fence. Just had a relaxing evening surfing the Internet and researching places to see in Door County. Day 2:Pancake breakfast, clean-up, packed up and left around 12:00. Cool and cloudy morning. Drove until Sturgeon Bay where we pulled over ... read more

Geo: 44.539, -92.3495Our Memorial weekend trip. Jeff finally found an opening (cancellation) 3 days before the weekend. We had nothing booked up until then and I kept telling him..."good luck finding a campground open during Memorial weekend". His reply..."I'll find something " Well he proved me wrong after several days/hrs of searching and calling. When we booked it we were pretty excited about seeing this State park. He looked like a nice one. We arrived at around 6:15 Friday night (about a 3 hr drive with traffic and the way GPS took us on the "Great River Road" scenic road). Friendly DNR checked us in and we finally bought our Hiking Club membership. After a quick set up we took a little walk around the campground (as we usually do) and then grilled some burgers. It ... read more
