| 2nd January 2009 Themba | - From: Visa Extensions - Day 13 Hi guys, I really enjoy reading your experiences. The bit about Harare though, is puzzling to me as a zimbabwean though. Clean? tidy? Yes it used to be but what you saw now - perhaps by african standards it is but well you saw what you saw. I have to give it to Zim: you can travel its breadth and not even notice the deep underlying problems and political mess that it is in! I think reason is despite the extreme hardship you will always find us 'happy & smiling'. Thanks for the experiences anywhere - God bless you all. |

Stayed in the same place, Palazzo Gamba, where the Duomo bells blast you out of bed from 06h45 onwards. Missed you. Hope the travels are going very well. Much love to ou all Jeanie xxx |

| 19th November 2007 Cathy & Glyn Riley | You had it easy - From: Aswan to Wadi Halfa - Day 43 to Day 45 Wow, you guys had it really easy! We had to wait until Wednesday afternoon to get our vehicles off the barge! (We were in a group of 3 cars and 4 motorbikes). I can't believe you got your cars so quickly. It meant a very long time spent in Wadi Halfa, as the salubrious Nile Hotel, which wasn't fun as we were all really dreading the road down to Dongola and just wanted to get on with it. Anyway, glad you had such a quick turn around! |
| 19th November 2007 Cathy & Glyn Riley | Ethiopian pleasures and pain - From: Lalibela’s Churches - Day 62 Hi Guys, We're the two bikers you met at Rezeiky camp, Luxor. We've made it to Arusha, despite a few breakdowns along the way, and are taking some time out here before leaving again to get to Jhb by Xmas. We also went to Lalibela via that nightmare road, and really enjoyed visiting the churches (although we were even hassled here, and what's more by a priest!) but I can tell you that the road on the Michelen map is even worse! It goes to Dilbe, and we took it because someone recommended it as a shortcut which also allows you to visit of the more remote churches, the Ganette Mariam church. Well, you've never seen anything like it! We were riding up 45 degree gradients of pure boulders, and Cathy crashed her bike, badly, more than once. We did eventually make it out of there, but it was awful. However, it didn't kill the bikes completely - no, that pleasure was to belong to the Moyale to Marsabit stretch of road. If you get there in the wet, wait for it to dry out, is all we can say. For more, read our blog entries about being rescued to get to Nairobi at: www.depart2peninsula.com Cheers! Cathy and Glyn |
