Vagabond Summer

So, this is my travel blog. Hopefully I will actually keep it updated. And hopefully someone other than myself and my parents (if they can figure out how to work the interface) will read it. Assuming my parents can figure it out, they'll mainly just want to know I'm not dead in some canyon or shady hostel bunkbed somewhere.

As the 2010/2011 ski season at Beaver Creek ended, I found myself without a job and without a place to live. Rather than do the responsible 30-something thing and get a real job and permanent residence, I decided I was going to buy a topper for my 200,000+ mile Tacoma and just spend a few months road-tripping, couch-surfing, and backpacking around the country.

I don't know where I'll end up. I don't know exactly how long I'll be gone. I have a basic agenda in mind, but I am setting nothing in stone. The good thing about not having a plan is you don't need to worry about breaking it, and you can change it at any time. I like the Jack Sparrow method of just improvising as I go.

I hope to see many friends during my travels, and hopefully make many more along the way. I know it won't always be easy and fun and wild and free. At times I know I will be cold, hungry, tired, desperately lonely, frustrated, in the midwest, in need of a bathroom, in need of a shower... but I know that I will come out of this a changed and better man. Thanks in advance to all of you who will be part of this with me.
