Malang was the end of part one of our trip across Java, our next stage was to get to Yogjakarta and the temple of Borobodur to the north. Feeling refreshed from our two day break in Malang and I with 10 toes fully operational again we headed off out of Malang on the flat towards Kepanjen.Once again we found ourselves in heavy traffic but there's nothing better to get you motivated and push on than lots of vehicles spewing fumes over you.We wanted a quite road asap and getting out and away from Malang was just the tonic.30km done by 9am we stopped for Soto(a noodle soup)and were given a telecom map of Java by the resturant owner who spoke exellent english. Lan Chile is a fine airline and put me after a five hour flight comfortably down in the small airport of Hanga Roa the islands capital.People were there to take you to a hotel of their choice but I had already opted for the far cheaper campsite ... read more

Gone now are the euro and all the expense that comes with europe and on we go into berber lands, ochre mountains and the closest culture shock you can get away from England Big culture change now,but thats what its all about,we can hang off the backs of trucks now overflowing with chickens and matrasses, who knows,I dont.We can choke happily on black car exhausts and dodge in and out of cattle and trucks on the highway. To the call to prayer we march into the rif mountains,a land full of marajana and mint tea. Bring it on,I say. Thunderclouds are looming and the rain is coming down out of the mountains, good day not to be cycling . Here here.... read more
