RE: Bucaramanga!
Hi Carlos Remarkably my cash machine problems seem to be solved. Although my card is actually a debit card, if I select "credit card" then all my transactions seem to work...fingers crossed! :) I DID meet a bilingual in Bucaramanga - David (the lawyer) spoke great English. Honestly, I'm always a mixture of disappointed and relieved when I get to speak to somebody with good English skills. Relieved because I can express myself much more freely, but disappointed because if I'm not forced to express myself in Spanish I'll never learn! You'll see from the later posts that I'm now in Medellín (having taken in Taganga, Santa Marta, Cartagena and Barranquilla. Next stop Armenia, I think. But that will be next week. Thank you so much for taking the time to post a comment. It's lovely to know that some Colombians are following my voyage of discovery through this beautiful country. Hasta luego.

Bucaramanga!
You had a strange issue with the cash machine, you should put another value option and then mark values over 500.000 pesos. Still tell me where are You now? how bad you didn't meet any bilingual here

RE: EPM
Hi Colombiana (can I call you that?) How lovely of you to take the time to pass on this information. I'm really delighted that you're enjoying the blog. Please continue to fill in the gaps in my posts - it really does add to my understanding of your beautiful country. And PLEASE don't apologize for you English - it looks pretty much perfect to me! :)

RE: mullets rock
Problem is, there's a really good chance that that's true! So now I'm not sure whether to be even more disparaging (in the case that he's NOT actually a good friend), or back off and respect your close friendship with one of the all time great mullets of the modern world....hmmmmm.

EPM
Hi, I ended up in your blog by accident, but I enjoy reading it. It's very interesting to see the view of people from others countries about mine. EPM is Empresas Públicas de Medelliín (wich is the local goverment services) and about the amputees... is because of the land mines that the FARC guerrilla put in some rural areas around the country. Have a nice trip! (sorry if my engish writing is not that good.) Feel free to ask if you need any advice.

Hi Monik Errrm, not sure if this is a nice message or not? Quien es el low-life? Yo? Pero, es verdad que Colombia es uno de los paises mas hermosos en el mundo - en mi opinión. Cuidate

RE: riots
Oh dear. Has the country gone even more to pot than when I left? Maybe I'll just stay here! :) You're right about the riots. But I'm not convinced of your stats - are you sure that only 1% of people in the UK have sex when they're sober?

riots
So, it felt like England flying into Rio Negro? You must have seen nothing working then and everyone on strike ;-) 3 nights ban on drinking. Damn! That's crazy. There would have ben a riot over here and the amount of people having sex would go down by 99% .. Hasta Luego

RE: no NO NO
Thanks anonymous poster. Errrm, yeah. They have lots of cats here. Colombia seems to be a very pet-friendly nation. I don't know if that's the case all over S. America. Guess I'll learn as I go and let you know. But they absolutely do NOT eat them. Whatever gave you the idea that they eat cats in Colombia???

YES! - I hate to agree with Dan, but he does seem to be correct in this circumstance. However seems I can only compare this to NPP, you may have somewhat more interesting alternatives than me.

YES YES YES!!
Go for it Chris, you have the ability and obviously the desire else you wouldn't be contemplating it - why leave until tomorrow what you can do today.....tomorow may never come and then you will have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity. The whole idea of having no fixed itinery was so you could allow yourself to take up these opportunities - and the week wait will give you chance to build up your energy reserves, sounds like you might need it :-) I say definately go for it!! Missing you lots XXX

NO!
I wouldn't. Sounds a lot of effort for little gain. Save your long explorations for Macchu Picchu if you hit Peru. By all accounts, very little there, it's the arduous journey that makes it memorable. I still recall you didn't make it to the top of the mountain (hill) in Taiwan.....

From Blog: Santa Marta and Taganga

YES
I reckon you should do it. Its going to be something different to the rest of the trip and if it is tough, it'll probably give you a pretty strong sense of satisfaction that you did it. Besides, with all this sitting around in bars and drinking beer, a bit of exercise is probably just what you need! ;-)
