Public Apology Hey there, I'm sorry if my comment came off as being rude but your blog was the second I read within five minutes that claimed Costa Rica is a third world country. I realize it is not the USA but to compare it to real "under developed" nation does not do it justice in mine or the United Nations opinion. If you look at the rankings for the countries in the world Costa Rica is right up there. I know there are issues with respect to corruption and administrative inadequacies. I just want you to consider that you live in a different place. I'm sure there are places in the US where you wouldn't be able to find your favorite mop. Sorry for lashig out at you
Thanks for the comment Thanks for your comment- Yet I have been to the 3rd World, having spent 2 months living in a tent in the deserts of the Afar region of Ethiopia with no electricity, running water or permanent structure to live in. I worked only with wildlife and locals only. If you really believe that Costa Rica is not any more 3rd world than the US, you have either not spent much time here, or you live in Escazu/Santa Ana or in an American area near the beach. I am not saying that it is a bad thing, but we definitely are not in the 1st world any more.
Third World?? Dude you've obviously never been to the third world. You don't live in the USA anymore and things are different but Costa Rica is not the third world anymore than the USA. Check out the life expectancy and availability of health care. Third world because you can't find your throw away environmentally damaging mop. Give us all a break. I dare you to publish this!
My best wishes Hi Mike and Rachel,
Congratualtions. I've always wanted to own my own hotel or inn. I work in the hospitality in the U.S. - pretty much all of my career life. I love the lodging industry and the island life. I just happened to ping your site by accident, my daughter did summer school in Tico country, in the Heredia area last year and stayed with a local host family. She loves the counrty and its people.
As I said earlier I want to be a hotelier or an innkeeper too but have not made that leap towards it, I guess I love the steady paycheck but I need to give it a shot. Any advice would be nice. Congrats and more power to you and your business.

Thanks for your concern I appreciate your comment, but we do not live in the house that will be the bed and breakfast. We have a private residence with our own fence and Gus spends his days sleeping on our bed's, not the hotel's.
In addition, he does not bark nor does he jump. Thank you for your concern, and I hope this aleviates some of your concern.
Love you Hi guys -
Hope all is well, your Mom keeps me posted. Are you "3 1/2" settled in yet? Rachel, have you seen the doctor? Please keep me posted on how you are feeling. I bought a crock pot so I can make your meatballs this weekend.....not too much is new here. Your dad sent me the info so I can read your blog - love hearing what is going on with you. Has your "boarder" left yet? How is the dog doing with the change? I will keep in touch, please do the same. I loved spending time with you - love you very much - Aunt Hermien

Congratulations I've been reading your blog entries for awhile. I figured this was a great time to say hello and most of all "congratulations". My family will be moving to CR (Alajuela) in the next couple of months. Maybe we will be fortunate enough to meet you and your family.
You have to let us know when the shows going to air. It's a great show without it being about the people to know. Also we'll make she to tell people to watch. As you said good advertising!
I have been working on my PhD in wildlife conservation, but after completing my Masters degree, I decided the I have been in school for far too long. My wife Rachel, a pediatric nurse, has been sick of her job since the moment she began working. So one day around February 2006 she and I began to discuss the possibility of selling everything we own, picking up our lives, and moving to Costa Rica to open a strictly kosher, "5-star" inn / hotel / bed and breakfast in Costa Rica. Fulfilling our lives' dream without having to wait until we retire.
This is our story as it happens-
