Fine, thanks; I've eaten today... Hooray for hiking in the mountains, combined with international adventure! I would have voted to skip Everest base camp too.
And I can't believe you broke our Bolivian fewest-passengers record. Amazing.
Fingers crossed for no more blisters,
Love,
--Jill
Great details Matt, we really enjoyed all the details of your Everest area experience. I guess we haven't experienced cold until one wakes up to a room at 28 F and we're not planning on ever doing so. But to see what you two did, you have to pay the price. Congrats on a successful experience. It sounds like you made wise choices and did not take chances with weather and altitude issues. Enjoy the warm part of your journey. Love, Mom and Dad
Good Connections We enjoyed the first installment on your adventure to Nepal. My favorite part was the sign with Matt's name on it being held up by the hostel staff member. That is a picture worth a thousand words and it came with a $10-a-night hostel. That's service and a bargain. Having tea on the hostel roof sounded like a scene right out of Greg Mortenson's book, "Three Cups of Tea." Enjoy it all and stay safe. Love, Mom and Dad
Wow, an Albatross Hello Matt and Sara,
Dad and I are enjoying the travelblogs. I am impressed with the albatross sighting, no matter what kind it was. You are really getting a workout with the paddling. Glad to hear you took a day and a half to rest. We hope the skies are sunnier in Banff. Enjoy the mountains and continue to stay safe. Love, Mom and Dad
Nice post! Sounds like you had a great time in Manu. My daughter and I hope to do the same trip in May 2007. Not surprised you didn't have much luck with the clay licks - from what I've read so far the macaws don't visit much in May and June. Any other tips you care to share that weren't in the journal?
Thanks for sharing Matt and Sara,
Thanks for all your time and effort recording your fabulous adventures in South America and sharing them with us. A few months from now, you'll be glad you wrote everything down as soon as possible, because the details can fade very quickly. You kept your sense of humor the entire trip, Matt, and it made for good reading. You also had amazing luck with the weather and your travels in general, but I'm sure all your planning had something to do with that. We hope you had a happy, safe landing back in Sacramento. Love, Bernadette and Ken
Nice Hike Matt and Sara,
Sounds like you might have been better off to take a shorter hike and do more looking. Anyway, it sounds like you had a lot of spectacular views. Laurie and I went to Columbus yesterday (Saturday) to see Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in concert. It was great, but loud. They sang for over two hours - singly and duets.
Love, Dad
I'm actually going to have to say LESS pictures. They really just get in the way. What a crappy camera you must have. jeez, stop wasting our time. :)
You probably wont believe this, but I would rather be here trying to polish and etch 0.0006" Ti foil than trekking around in silly South America.
heh ok sarcasm session over - this is my everyday vicarious escape. You lucky bums! and for symmetry, MORE PICTURES!
Love the pictures Matt and Sara,
Pictures make us want to go to the Galapogos Islands. Maybe in a couple of years. Good talking to you yesterday. Have fun on the trek.
Love, Dad
fabulous photos Matt and Sara,
Thanks for posting the pictures. The birds and other creatures are wonderful to see. Also loved the couples, including our favorite travelers. We viewed the pix at the library to get the full effect and enjoyed all of them. Have a safe trip in the high mountains. Love, Mom and Dad
More birds Matt and Sara,
Sounds like Sara is getting to see all the birds she wants. What is the count up to? The variety seems tremedous. Hope the dog bite is doing well.
Love, Dad
Dramamine I have to add, as the pharmacist, that Dramamine, Benedryl and all OTC sleep medications are essentially the same thing. It just depends what you are taking it for. If you taking it for allergies or nausea, sleepiness is a side effect. If you are taking it for Sleeping, dry nose and mouth are side effects. They are Diphenhydramine or Dimenhydrinate.
Birders Heaven It sounds as though you have had wonderful luck in being able to identify so many species of birds. I'm sure they must display all the beautiful colors of the rainbow. Sorry to hear about the dog bite. What happened after it bit her? Any concerns? Love, Mom
Fab photos Sara and Matt,
We are at the library and saw all the photos you posted. They are just great. It was so good to see your smiling and sometimes intense expressions. Also enjoyed the mountain scenery. Thanks for taking time to post pix and captions. Love, Mom and Dad
wow, what a trip Hi Matt and Sara,
I loved reading all the details of your various sightings. It does sound like an amazing place. Matt, your sense of humor is coming through with the moon joke and light reading, making your blogs fun as well as interesting. I hope your sense of equlibrium has returned by now as you head for the next adventure. Love, Bernadette and Ken
Good decision Matt and Sara,
Sounds like you made a wise decision to include the Galapagos on your itinerary. It is an animal lover's paradise and you can get so close to so many different species. I wondered what your boat would be like and now I have a better idea. Glad your adventure was exciting and safe. Thanks for giving us the inside tour of Galapagos. I'll send the entries to Grandma Hondl. Love, Bernadette
Galopogos adventure Matt and Sara,
I have just one word to say - PICTURES! Sounds like a wonderful trip with no real problems. Amazing number of different species of birds, mammals, fish, and reptiles. Sounds like the boat was pretty good with plenty of food and time to rest. Keep the glogs coming. And post pictures.
Love, John
Have fun Looking forward to hearing about the Galapagos. Very exciting. Really enjoying the entries and especially the spectacular photos!
Congrats again on getting NC state!
Nate
shocked and awed - in a nice way Just wanted to say, 'Hi!'
I'm glad to see and read that you guys are having an awesome time. I can't help but look forward to future travels with Jill, and hopefully you two as well.
I hope that the rest of your trip passes as splendidly as that which has passed, and I really look forward to hearing about your Galapagos excusion. The Galapagos is a place that has always captured my imagination, and to which I have always attached a likely exaggerated sense of primitiveness.
Happy Trails,
Bill
Almost as good as a phone call Since I missed your phone call tonight, I was very pleased to hear from you via the travel blog. It sounds just like you. I cringed a bit reading about you hiking barefoot, but you certainly explored a special part of the world. Keep safe and I hope Matt feels better. Love, Mom
