Very windy day in the Cape. We trundled down to Cape of Good Hope along a very windy road only to find 2 coachloads of Japanese had beat us to it. Managed to get a few photos then visited Cape Point. After a vert average lunch we went to see the penguins at Boulders, but I think they also didn't like the wind as they werent moving around too much. So out on town tonight before meeting cousin Flora and husband Pat tomorrow. Been a quick fortnight. ... read more

Tomorrow we visit the local winelands then on Friday we go to Cape Town. The weather, food and hotels are improving every day. The group of fellow travellers are mainly friendly. ... read more

One small step and all that, well in 2 weeks time I will make my first leap into the African continent, the last major landmass yet to be visited. Off to South Africa for a couple of weeks touring this magnificent country, so I am told anyway The winter of the Southern Hemisphere can only be an improvement on the Scottish summer, any sunshine would be an improvement. Another bonus at the end of our holiday is the chance to see a cousin I haven't met in 38 (yes 38) years. Will be interesting to see who has changed most! So go away ash clouds, and let's do Africa, from the South anyway. Hope to post a few 'Big 5' pics as we go, and I'm not talking beers for once. Seeya all soon... read more

After a day at the Zoo in Sydney a night at the cinema and some sangria in the Hilton bar we awoke with heavy heads to continue our travels to Hong Kong. The daytime flight was great as the plane was only 1/4 full so we had a row each. Arrived in H K just before sunset and found hotel really easily for once. We gave now found a bar near hotel that does Wifi, cold beer and allows smoking, Mel is a happy bunny. Off out exploring tomorrow in the rather warmer climes of HK. ... read more

We have now ventured a bit further south to Dunedin, Portobello to be precise on the Otago peninsula. We managed to see some Albatrosses and their chicks but the penguins proved a bit more elusive. The weather is still great, clear blue skies and freezing nights. So now onwards north to Christchurch for our last night in NZ and it has eventually started raining. We visit Rome strange boulders the Geraldine, a small town famous for the worlds largest jumper! Tomorrow Sydney beckons and maybe a computer that will accept my photos.... read more

We made it to Milford Sound, a place I should have visited 18 years ago, well worth the wait though. To save time and add mor excitement we flew there from Queenstown, a spectacular flight. Mel was co-pilot which was exciting fir her and worrying for me in the back seat! So today we are trundling down to Dunedin, and this little cafe in Lawrence is more Scottish than Gaggis and shortbread. With a bit of luck we may see some albatrosses and penguins this afternoon. ... read more
