Nice blog Hello Leslie,
Nice to read a blog on Tassie :) I am from up the north (Scottsdale) but living in Europe at the moment. How long are you spending in Tasmania? Be nice to be back home this time of year since it is freezing in Europe.. Lucky you :)
accent accidents Your comment about difficulty speaking with an American accent reminds me of something I noticed during my semester in Scotland. To blend in better and make my mumbling easier for the locals to understand, I altered my accent a little, using slightly more Scots-like vowels, pronouncing names the same way other people did, etc. Not that I was trying to "pass" (as if), but just so I'd stick out less. But once in a while I'd find myself talking to a mixed group of Brits and fellow Yanks... and it felt awkward because I didn't know which way to pronounce things: Midwestern style or Scot-ish.
euWWWWW Hi Leslie, I play tennis w/ your mom and have been riveted to all your interesting and totally fascinating blog entries. Even though you and I have yet to meet I have to tell you I will have nightmares for a week from the snake photo! It just isn't right!! Thank you for taking the time to update those of us living vicariously through your experiences.....except for the snakes of course!! PS We tennis gals are taking good care of your Mom while you are gone! Have fun!!! But NO MORE SNAKES! =))
Movies You suggest Ghost Writer, so I guess I'll get it ON DEMAND. I have a cold and a movie will help pass the time of day. Everything you've written about sounds interesting. Glad you're taking it all in. Kanga meat? Oh, well......G'ma
Eager to eat your cooking Interesting that part of your adapting to Australia includes learning some cooking and coping skills!
I am eager to sample some of your gourmet cooking when you return.
By the way, have you found the rude Australian yet? We didn't until the boarding line at the airport on our way out.
Interesting So far so good except for the electricity thing. What a cook! New skills in addition to new people and places. Glad all is well. Love---G'ma
Glad they remembered to take you back We snorkled on the reef when we were there in 1995--it was much younger then--but we did not try Scuba.
When I read about the snnorkle couple left out there by mistake it seemed more real than if we had not been there.
Glad they remembered you!
Sound like you are off to a good start.
This is a tragically inadequate glimpse into my semester abroad in Australia. And don't worry; it isn't actually tragic. I'm a pretty upbeat person, and it's beyond me how anyone could not enjoy living in such an awesome place. Enjoy. :-)... full info
