London? What am I doing in London? Wasn't I supposed to go to the Andaman Islands, Nepal, and the Middle East? But before I explain the reasons behind this supposedly unexpected decision I'd like to give a brief summary of my last month in India. After recovering from a sick stomach I continued my journey through Kerala by joining my friends in Allepey, the main entry point for the backwaters. The backwaters are bascially canals and lakes that extend for many kilometres and you can cruise them for hours or days, depending on your time, interest and financial resources. We chose to do a 4 hours cruise, which was good enough for me. The view was nice but not amazing. The water wasn't that clean but I would be a fool if after three months in ... read more

Given the reactions to my last entry I will try to update my blog more often. So here it goes. As you can read from the headline I'm sick again - that bloody diaharrea + vomiting thing that caught me about two months ago in Udaipur. Too bad because I was having a good time in Kerala. First of all it is infinitely more quiet than the rest of India and it is actually pleasant to walk on the street, and secondly I have been in good company all along. When I arrived to Fort Cochin I met the Australian guy I who was in my hostel in Ooty and we hung out for a few days exchanging travel stories and telling each other how much we love Latin America. Then he left and I was ... read more

I had nearly given up on the blog, couldn't be arsed to write anymore, but since I have an hour to kill I might as well make use of it and update you on my recent movements. So let's see if I can pick up where I left off. After Diu I went to Mumbai, where I hung out with a lot of couchsurfers, all of them very nice. They made me forget about my bad experiences in Rajhastan and restored my faith in the site. Mumbai is my favourite among the big India cities. I don't know if it's the presence of the sea or the fact that is more Westernised but unlike Delhi I could see myself spending some time there. It was very hot there and I fancied being on the beach again, ... read more

It's been a while since I've written in my blog and a lot have happened since then but I don't feel like going into details. Suffice to say that things have considerably improved after leaving Rajhastan. the state of Gujarat is so much nicer. I enjoyed the Kutch province, with its unique handicraft, and the island of Diu, where I am now, with its quiet beaches and fishing villages. Despite all this I've been suffering from mood swings and had a lot of down moment. I've been trying to understand why. Of course it could be the rubbish scattered everywhere, or the noise, or the smell, but I believe there is one more important element affecting my mood and it is the one thing I thought would not cause me any problem: Indian food. Back in ... read more

I'm in Ahmedabad now. I don't know if it's the fact that I finally left the state of Rajhastan, or the fact that I am hanging out with my London friend Fernando, or the effort I made to stay positive to attract more positivity - I firmly believe in this - but finally things seem to have turned for the better. Yesterday I had a great day hanging around the city with Fernando. The highlight was visiting a fort, whose name I don't even remember, and sharing tea and a laugh with the government officers who were working there. They hardly spoke any English but were ever so friendly. Then at night we went to a CS meeting and finally saw CS as it should be - friendly people wanting to socialise and do things as ... read more

Got to Udaipur really early in the morning. I'm far too tired to do any serious sightseeing so I just wander about town and I find a masseur who has collected excellent reviews from customers. Although he is a bit pricey I decide to go for it. And it was the best spent 1000rs of my life. Not only the pain in the neck and the back has magically disappeared, but he was able to do in five minutes what orthopedics and physiotherapists weren't able to do in twenty years: he rebalanced my body by realigning my hips and consequently my shoulders. If I think of all the effort I used to make in try to walk with my shoulders in line and now it just becomes natural to me. He guarantees that this effect will ... read more

If the other night was the worst night so far then yesterday was certainly the best. The Spanish girl at my guesthouse told me about a concert down the lake. Since it was five minutes away and I wasn't particularly tired I decided to go, expecting to find hippy travellers playing "Across the Universe" on guitar. And how big was my surprise when I found that this was actually an all Indian event. At first I was suspicious but I could sense the good vibe so I timidly walked in. The people welcomed me and make me feel at home. And for once they didn't want anything in return. There was a blind guy playing a small keyboard and three guys on jembes. In between music the blind guy would recite prayers in Sanscrit. There was ... read more

Last night we arrived in the pretty little town of Pushkar. It is a pilgrimage site but also a haven for hippy travellers who come here to smoke and chill out. It has a good vibe but as a non smoker I wonder how much I can enjoy it. Today it was raining so after wandering about a bit we went back to the guest house and had a chat with a nice Spanish girl, a guy from Croatia and two Indian guys who seem refreshingly different from the typical horny cheese types. Tomorrow we are planning to rent a scooter and explore the surroundings. It should be fun.... read more

My worst evening so far. We were invited by some couchsurfers we had met the previous night to go to their city farm the following day to have some food together. We accepted on condition that we'd be home by 11 pm as we had to catch an early bus in the morning. By 12 am food was not even ready yet. In the meantime they had drunk two bottles of whiskey between the four of them and had started to become annoying and made us feel really uncomfortable. They wanted us to be cheerful, laugh at their stupid jokes and join in the drinking but at that time of the night we were too tired for any of that. One of them in particular was really unbearable and I had to restrain myself in order ... read more

I had an OK journey from Bikaner to Jaisalmer. The train was on time and despite the heavy snoring of some of my fellow passengers - recorded on my camera - I managed to sleep for a few hours. I arrived at 5.30 am and was picked up by my couchsurfer and taken to a former guest house now turned into a CS gathering place. I slept a few more hours then at around 11 in the morning a girl from Malta arrived at the place. I had already been in touch with her via the CS site and was very happy to finally meet her as I had a feeling we would get on very well, and so it is. We went for food and for a walk around town. Jaisalmer is very touristy but ... read more
