I'm starting to travel more than I used to so I found this site as a way to document where I'm going (and where I've been) so that my kids can keep track of me.

I'm from St. Louis, MO and have 3 little girls.

We woke up early Sunday for our planned trip back to the Vatican Museums. After a quick subway ride into Ottaviano we were quickly heading south towards the Vatican and were a bit worried about the fact that THOUSANDS of other people appeared headed in the same direction. As we came to the Vatican walls we noticed the longest line I’ve ever seen in my life. We roughly knew where the museum entrance was and this line had to be about ½ mile from it and wrapping around the Vatican walls. Plus, in true European fashion, it wasn’t exactly a “single file” line. It was more of a 6-7 people wide mass of people all facing the same direction. I was a bit apprehensive (actually I turned and left) but my wife again convinced me she ... read more

We woke up on Saturday morning in room only to find out that the clocks were set an hour ahead in Italy. This unfortunately meant we were behind schedule so we quickly ate and headed towards the metro to take the subway to the Vatican, our planned destination. We had decided on the subway after spending 30-40 Euro’s a day on cabs and wondering if there was a cheaper way to travel. As we found out, the subway is 4 Euro’s a day (per person) and you can ride it or city buses an unlimited number of times within that day. MUCH cheaper than cabs and it became our favorite means of transportation throughout the city. The subway from Termini to Ottaviano (the nearest to the Vatican) takes about 10-15 minutes so we were quickly following ... read more

After a long trip from St. Louis, MO, my wife and I finally find ourselves in Italy. Travel As mentioned in a previous post, both Lynda and I took separate routes to Italy due to various reasons. Lynda left St. Louis and flew through Philadelphia, PA straight to Italy and I flew through Chicago and then to Frankfurt, Germany before catching a short flight down to Rome. The flight from Frankfurt to Rome was fascinating as I had a nice window seat from which to view the Alps and central Europe before flying low over Florence and Tuscany and into Rome. After spending 10+ hours in the air it was kind of nice to see something worthwhile. Neither of our flights were too eventful but we brought enough gadgets, books, and other distractions to keep us ... read more

We are still prepping for our trip to Rome. As of now my wife Lynda and I are scheduled to meet at Fiumicino (Da Vinci) airport on the morning of March 26th. Oddly enough we are traveling to Europe via different flights. My Lufthansa flight heads from Chicago to Frankfurt and then down to Rome and Lynda is flying United from St. Louis through Philly and then over to Rome. She's actually arriving a few hours before me so it'll be interesting finding each other in a foreign airport without phones that work. Which brings me to phones: unfortunately none of my cell phones are GSM enabled (so they don't work in Europe or most other foreign countries). I've been researching options and found a large number of websites that will sell unlocked Quadband GSM phones ... read more

This is my first blog entry using this site. My reason for starting this blog and maintaining it in addition to my software development blog is due to the fact that I'm beginning to do more traveling for my work and my daughters are beginning to take more of an interest in where I'm going and what I'm seeing. Also, my three daughters (ages 10, 9, and 7) are becoming more computer literate and want somewhere to go and look and pictures and videos of dad's trips. So, I looked around for an additional blog site I could use to keep track of my adventures and easily include pictures and videos and I happened upon this site. As this is my first post, I am still in my hometown of Ellisville Missouri which is a far ... read more
