Well when we met up with the group I had no wireless at night and was too busy during the day to blog, so here is a summary. When we got to Concepcion we connected with the group that was coming to do a work project at the EPES center in Haulpen. I have a strong connection with this center, I was there when it was a vacant lot, and Kathy and I were there for the dedication of the center a couple of years ago. It is also the location of the mural that my friend Steve DeLaitsch and I collaborated on with a couple of Chilean artists. So it is a special place to me. Now that we are about half way through this trip we can honestly say that we are enjoying blundering our way through Chile!!!! (It is possible that this is due to the fact that our transportation woes have not been as great as they were at the beginning of the trip!!). We have the next several hundred miles of transport booked and barring the possibility that I got tickets for the wrong day or the wrong time we should be back in Chillan on Monday morning. Wow we had a whole day today without a bus!! Wow usually we are on the whirl wind tour of where ever we are. On one of our more usual trips we would be heading home about now. The adventure continues. So as you might have heard, on our way back from El Quisco, I started to think that it might be a little hard to get to Pucon if we stayed in Isla Negra for the night. The first buses did not leave until 10:00 am. 900 km takes a while on a bus. Plus you must understand that because Chile is “shaped like a string bean” the buses most often travel at night (at least the really comfortable buses). So this looked like a really good plan, get to Santiago at about 9:30 and take the next bus heading south. Now that would mean missing the fireworks in El Quisco, but what the hey, seen one fire work you seen ‘em all, so it was a sacrifice we were willing to make. ... read more

Wow--Planes, Trains, and Autobuses and we are finally here. The flight went off without a hitch, we even managed to get some sleep on the all night flight from Dallas! We went Minnesota snow and landed in 68 degree midsummer weather with the geraniums blooming and hopes for a wonderful time. We passed customs without any problem, got a bus to take us to the central bus station and that is where our un poco español started to cause problem we buy our tickets, board the bus, ride to the end of the line, and THIS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A BUS STATION!!!!! So I try to ask the driver as the passengers disperse in all directions where the bus station is and he says 3 blocks, failing to mention the direction. We we find a ... read more
