I've just begun my gap year - I'm travelling round Europe by train - doing big cities with the idea of getting to know the principle ones a little so I can go about planning my internship year (which I'll start september 2010) better. I'm doing International Business and so I have to do a year in industry, abroad. So far I've only been to Madrid - moving up to Bilbao and then France, Germany, Austria...Looking for tips!

I'm still in Tenerife and enjoying the wonderful volcanic scenery....but there's a particular reason I wanted to stay too: From the 19 June until the 22nd, Tenerife will convert into a haven for Europe’s golf lovers…or in fact anyone who wants to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this unique Canary Island. The 7th Tenerife Ladies Open Tournament takes place over these exciting 4 days with over 120 players flying in from all over the world including Germany, France, England, India and Australia. Ladies golf is on the increase and the island of Tenerife is leading the way, putting prize money of 400,000 Euros and investing greatly in its promotion. With it’s fine weather and picturesque scenery, Tenerife golf is arguably a sport for everyone - literally no one could not appreciate the natural landscape which plays ... read more

At this moment I am in Portugal, but in a few weeks I am going to change my city, during some days to Tenerife. Tenerife is a Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean. I am going there to spend some time, take some sun and practice some sport: like parapente. It such a lovely sport and in that wonderful island it is even better. The other thing that I am not loosing is to try papas arrugadas. I have already been there but it was a long time ago. I really enjoy my trip there, the weather is so nice, and the water is during every year. Now I am going there alone and I am already looking for vuelos Tenerife and enjoy, one again this wonderful trip. ... read more

I’ve just met someone who’s told me of Barcelona, this is what I’ve found out - anyone live there with tips? Barcelona is the second biggest city in Spain and it has something about like two millions habitants. It is a citty with a lot of movement and with a lot of interests things to do and to see. This city has an important cultural part. It has such nice beautiful monuments and a lot of museums. Las Ramblas is a place where you can find everything, is a big avenue with a lot of things like: resataurants, flowersa nd shops. But besides this comercial part you also have the arquitecture that is known by all over the world. Gaudi, the important architecture, born and work there and like a testemonial he left a lot of ... read more

The last time I wrote I had just begun teaching a little English in Prague and was really enjoying it and considering staying for a while (even though my original plan was to move on every couple of weeks). Well, I love it so much, I am still here. The teaching is really suiting me and it seems my students too - we are coming up to a time when they'll be taking exams (some at school, some at uni) and so I've been putting in extra work (and enjoying it!) to help them out. In fact, we celebrated a local Teacher Appreciation Day recently and they honoured me by buyiong a special teacher appreciation gift - a pen inscibed with the city name, my name and the date. A great memory and it has only ... read more

Prague was much different to what I had imagined and so I’ve decided to stay here for a little while to do some investigation. You will (hopefully!) have read my first entry, city tripper, which describes the reason why I’m out here, travelling Europe and exploring its cities: I’ll soon have to complete an internship for university which will be of really quite a long time and because of this I want to be sure that I make a good decision about where I go. I speak the major European languages well and either way, the aim of my internship will not be for language learning so much as to get an idea of a new culture and get some good work experience on my resume. So it is in Prague where I find myself and ... read more

Most people have a certain desire to travel the world, which is why more and more young people decide to spend time travelling, often between finishing school and starting university. Be it a long or short term journey, the benefits are well known - undergraduates starting university more mature, confident and better prepared having experienced life away from home before. This time can be used to learn a new language, consider plans for the future and, most importantly, to have an extraordinary experience that includes getting to know not only different countries, but also cultures. However, it is often forgotten that to have this experience you do not need to travel as far as South-East Asia or Australia, but can have the same or an even better experience right on your doorstep in Europe. The cultural ... read more
