Dylan and I are settling down now. We are in our second week, and work is going well. They tell me daily how much they appreciate me. I arrived safely in Skagway, AK on Friday, April 25, 2008. It was a trying trip, but successful! God was true to His word and cared for us, even though our things were in sad shape. But then, they are just things! I was greeted warmly when I arrived. Left Sasquatch Crossing this morning at 9:45. After the first hour or so the roads cleared and the sky cleared and it was a great day. I wrote this at the end of the day that day, I had trouble getting out of my room again today and did not leave until 9:45. One hour earlier than the day before!! That is progress! Tomorrow I expect to get on the road even earlier. No snow today or tonight! clear skies and mostly no snow on the roads. Well, I dreamed about having an accident last night! No surprise there. I guess I am still in shock. I waited most of the day for the tow truck company owner and another mechanic to look at my rig and see if it was salvageable. The determination was no. Also, the owner of the tow company called around to see if he could find another small rig for me to buy, but was unsuccessful. Our second day in Canada, Linda left the motel about 30 minutes before I did. She was going to eat her breakfast while driving and I was eating cereal, so had to eat before getting on the road. Shortly after we hit the road, the weather turned bad. It started snowing and blowing hard. We encountered a sanding truck in a good spot that was sanding the center line. Today I left Newberg, OR for Skagway, AK. I am traveling with my friend Linda who is from Oregon as well. I drove to Marysville, WA and spent the night in my motorhome/van for the first time. It was cold, but my preparation eventually allowed my dog Dylan and I to get warm and get some sleep. The next morning Linda and I met up in Marysville, and traveled across the border to Canada and then on into 100 Mile, BC, CA. We spent the night in a motel and were nice and warm. [View Full Entry]
