Hello all, Busy busy busy...we left our home stays and said fond farwells to all our gracious hosts and hostesses. Onward to Cannes: Group picture time on the stairs of where the Cannes film festival is held. Pretty exciting to know that we walked in a place where so many famous people have been. One could sure tell that the rich and famous travel through this area. Yachts the size of ocean liners, (well almost) and helicoptors that bring people to their mansions. We went for a late afternoon bowling party and dinner, then to our hotel. UP early as usual, then proceeded to Monaco and learned the history of the Grimaldi family, the world's oldest monarchy. One square mile of land with 7,000 Monaconese people. To be a citizen you have to have parents that ... read more
Happy 4th of July to all of you! It is certainly the perfect day for weather, sunny, warm, blue sky. We have checked in with the students and all is well. As for news on what we're doing, that depends on the family. I hear some are going to see fireworks tonight; I'm a bit jealous since I have missed the 4th celebrations two years in a row....but... I got a car tour from my host family from Frejus all the way to Cannes. I saw Pierre Cardin's home, too spectacular to comprehend. I know that Paul is fortunate today to be out on in a boat on the sea with his family. I can just imagine the great things your children are doing right now! Yesterday I ran into Stephen and Patrick with their family ... read more
Hello to all families and friends. Yesterday we spent a beautiful but hot day in Lyon...the gastronomic captial of France. It added about five lbs to my hips. Breakfast was croissants, baguettes, jam, butter, fresh fruit, yogart, sliced ham and a delicious cheese (don't know what kind, but it was rich); We took a sightseeing ride through Lyon, stopping at a beautiful church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. We saw the combination of old and new architecture and crossed over the Rhoan and Soane rivers. Please excuse my spelling of these as it is difficult to spell because French does not spell easily phonetically; Then stopped at an amazing indoor market that puts Whole Foods to shame! We sampled various meats, duck pate surrounded in a pastry, herbed cheese,. too much to mention. Some of us ... read more
After spending a lovely day in Paris visiting the Louvre, we went on a bus and walking tour of the city, visiting Notre Dame, walking down narrow streets and taking in the ambiance of the city. The kids were thrilled to eat in an international food court for lunch at the Louvre. We ended our day at the Hqrd Rock Cafe. Almost everyone hqd q good old American cheeseburger. Tonight we had our homestay meeting and everyone found out the names of their famimies. They will be staying in Frejus or Saint Raphel outside of Lyon. Tomorrow we will go to Versailles and then on a long busride to Lyon for the evening. Students will try to be in touch after they say goodbye to their respective families. julie paul derrick and kristen... read more
