| 13th May 2009 Adam | - From: Damn those Iberian airways! I'm just about to fly with Iberian tomorrow, going from London to Madrid, then Madrid to Quito. This article has made me slightly worried. I'm going to try to get a guitar on board as my hand luggage. Although it's small, I think it's 5 cm over the height limit. Hopefully they won't try to charge me the £35 fee. It would be a disappointing way to start. |
| 14th March 2009 M Bennett | Crap service from iberian airways - From: Damn those Iberian airways! Flight cancellation 9th of January 2009, Snow at Madrid we know Iberian airways are not to blame for the weather however they are legally responsible for the passengers, I was told at 5-15pm that the desk would close there was still hundreds of people in a cue we had been stood in for 3-30minutes, we were given no information and no assistance which they are entitled to by law, now the thieving scum bags are refusing to give back the money for the flight, saying we should have gone to the desk which we were told by a badge wearing iberian staff member was closing, the worst airlines I have the displeasure to fly with |
| 26th December 2008 jamieborley | 'Anonymous'? Obviously. - From: Damn those Iberian airways! Mr anonymous, have ever you flown with Iberia? They´re known on a world scale for their bad attitude, incredible incompetence and poor, poor customer relations and service... And did I go all the way to Antigua to watch a 'soccer' match? You are joking, aren't you? Read the rest of the blogs ... fails me too. I try to look at these places and experiences objectively - I don't trick myself and my consciouness into believing it's all great and 'awsome' and the culture, music, food and people are all fantastic just because I've paid a hefty sum of money to be there. That would be completely irrational. If things are not what you expect, why not say so? |
| 26th December 2008 jamieborley | Yes, it's bad... - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. Yes, Kari, it is really bad... Okay, I was referring specifically to the Transantiago and maybe exaggerating a little but just ask Chilenos here about the Transantiago - it's a horrble, horrible way to travel... they have been let down badly by the Gov and the older system was infinitely better.. (routes, efficiency, cost, comfort - albeit with smog-spewing buses) and the knock on effect has been that now the Metro is saturated at most hours. People squeezing in like sardines... Nowhere in the article did I say that I don't like Chile, but I will say that Santiago is a very unpleasant place to live - quality of life is inexistent. Its problems are deep and long... People don't jokingly call it Santiasco for nothing. Jamie |
| 10th November 2008 anonymous | - From: Damn those Iberian airways! Stop complaining. It's an accident for heavens sake. And why would you go all the way to Antigua to watch a bloody soccer match - fails me! |
| 10th November 2008 kari | worst public transportation!? - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. I am quite surprized to see you say Santiago has the worst public transportaion system... I found the Metro effecient and clean and the bus system, while crazy and crowed while I was living there, was quite thorough as far as route. Perhaps I am comparing this to a city completely lacking in public transportation, but I do not know how you can say it is the worst. Very sorry you have not enjoyed your time in CHile. I fell in love with it and am in fact returning this Christmas to show my boyfriend around. Take care |
| 21st August 2008 leon | Arm ball? - From: 'Jamie British Citizen, please!' Is that your trademark arm ball son? When you go out to bat next use our old line - 'chuck the keetle on, be back now'. Top blog boyo!!! |

| 21st February 2008 Helan | Felicidades - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. Nice one on getting engaged- that's not a very long engagement is it? Hope you don't spend the rest of your life in Santiago though- I was there too and ended up in Valparaiso around New Year too! The noise and smog got to me in Santiago... Any recommendations for me in Colombia (before I trawl through all your blogs trying to find Colombia)? Que tengas buenas classes de ingles, Helen |
| 15th February 2008 mike fisher | - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. lo mate ,nice to hear from you( been a long time )i"ve just read you"re getting married nice one ( can"t believe quiet jamie from the gear lab is getting hitched) all the best to you both. give me a ring when you get back to wales we can go out for a pint. mike |
| 15th February 2008 David Kempisty | Well Done! - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. As always, a well written piece. With your appreciation for the beers, perhaps a home-brewing operation should be considered? I have been brewing for some time now and aside from some residual kidney issues because of an early bout wtih E-Coli O157:H7, things are great. My Hefeweizen is fantastic. Congrats on the engagement thing. I appreciate your take on the experiences with all the preparations; I know first hand as I am all engaged to tie the knot. I will be getting married on 25 May in Edinburgh, Scotland. Whisky tasting two days prior - marathon participation the morning of and wedding reception that evening --- perfect! Hope all continues well - Your Guatemalean roommate. Dave. |
| 13th February 2008 jamtes st. james | inglich an espanish - From: Nobody loves you when you're an English teacher. i've really enjoyed your journals, especially the ones from your return to chile (i read your original jounal entereries on chile long ago). i'm a chilean who's grown up in the US and may at some point return to chile with my gringa woman so it's been very eye opening to read your attempts at landing a job (my woman is the career-person in our relationship). i'm an interpreter (span-eng) so i reckon i'd be looking for work in a similar field if and when i ever live in santiago again (my family left before i turned 2, i'm 32 now). there's another young man from new zealand whose blog i read this week who's almost in the same boat as you. anyway, keep your chin up. congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding. you're "part of the chilean family" now ;) . i look forward to reading more updates on your life in the future. like the chilean government propaganda says, "piensa positivo" (thumbs up). cheers! |

| 29th April 2006 jamieborley | Jesus, Pazzy, that's gutter talk... - From: Travelling Blues: Homeward Jack. Thanks for the message fella, it won't be long now before I am home and back on the mean and not-so-clean streets of the Eastside, rocking in the free world once more. Keep the faith... jamie |
| 27th April 2006 Pazzy | alright or what - From: Travelling Blues: Homeward Jack. Whats happening son. Hows your tights? Got to pull my pants down to you mate, sounds and looks like you've had and are still having the time of your life. A bit like patrick swayze in dirty dancing! | 19th April 2006 Leon | Big Up!!!! - From: The work? It can wait... Got to say bro proud as reading your blog, havent looked for a while but have to tilt my hat and bow my head! You have recorded your thoughts and happenings in an eloquent and comical manner, that deserves all the admiration it will undoubtably bring. really looking forward to the unoffical added extras which you will divulge on return to this narrow minded and annoying land we call home. Still there are many people here who cant wait to see you, and dont forget a certain socailist football team itching for their prodigal future player to finally pull on their jersey! Amke sure the emails keep coming and carry on inspiring......Keep it Reel cous.... |
| 10th April 2006 jamieborley | Hello, how's Jackland? - From: The work? It can wait... Cheers for the message Sam... Actually when I was in Wellington just two days ago I was watching a game of rugby and football at the same time on two adjoining pitches. To be fair they both caught my equal attention... Football for how bad and comical the kiwis are at playing it and the rugby for how big, quick and strong they are! And how hard they hit each other in the tackle..! Ooofff, glad I am a footballer and all occasional all-rounder on the cricket pitch. Bollocks to that! It's very beautiful so far down here, I am now in the south island in Kaikoura, like a mixture of the greeness of Wales, the english lake district, the shorelines of Ireland and tinges of my spiritual homeland - Colombia. I love it. Speak soon Jamie 'Cienfuegos' Borley... |
| 8th April 2006 Sam | Lucky Lucky git - From: The work? It can wait... Hiya Jamie Looks fantastic ! Im soooooooooo jealous of your trip to NZ i cant even begin to put it into words ! Being the rugby nut that i am then NZ is my spiritual home ! I know that the game involving 22 idiots and a pigs bladder is more your style but please promise me while your out there you will try and catch some of the heaven that is called rugby and is played with an oval ball ! Enjoy yourself chick and keep up the travelling. Im loving the blogs and your style of writing. You were wasted working in Fords ! Love Sam xx PS if you get the chance look at the NZ phone book and see if you can spot anyone with 'AB' next to thier name. Means they were once an all black and have been capped ! (Fact of the day) |

| 26th March 2006 Jo Sanders | Your logs and you... - From: Leaving Latin America... Jamie you are a great writer and you really should seriously consider journalism or something like that when you return - try contacting Rough Guides or someone. You sound like you've had a life changing and challenging experience, don't let it completely shade the UK - every country has good and bad points. We've been in France now for over 3 years and we look at the UK through different eyes, and although I wouldn't necessarily want to live there again I can at least now see it through 'transparent glasses!' - it's certainly not rose tinted! Drop us a little email sometime and we'll fill you in on old-boy Steve and 6mth old Elise. Take care, good luck, Jox |

| 1st February 2006 jamieborley | Listen TJ Hooker, you don´t know the stress of it! - From: Listen señora, I am not really the Prince Of Wales. I have always been a miserable git, ever since I was a little boy, just ask my mother. But you know what´s it´s like ´familiarity breeds contempt´... I just can´t shake off my British cynicism sometimes. That´s why you see very few Welsh backpackers - because we don´t take ourselves so seriously with these multi-fuctional 53 pockets, 49 zips, sand coloured cargo trousers and multi-functional fleeces (all designed to make the local poor people feel even poorer). You´d be scrapping out here every 5 minutes, trust me. And although I´m down here it´s like John Hartson once said...''for me, Swansea is the top´´. Have faith, Jamie |
| 31st January 2006 TJ | Miserable Git... - From: Listen señora, I am not really the Prince Of Wales. Jamie, when the next hostel pisses you off or the next 21 year old in trousers with zips all over them says 'let's paty man' try to think of Swansea and remember that it could be worse, you could be back home! |

Nice one Frano, I am afraid I can't name & shame this person for libel reasons (You know what he's like)(well... everyone knows what he's like). He knows who he is, god bless him and if he´s happy and the rodents are happy with their sex-slave existence - live and let live I say. Considering he made my life a misery at the Gear Laboratory I really should name & shame, but I'd lose all my redundancy pay in lawyer´s fees fighting the case! So bollocks to it! |
| 11th November 2005 Frano | Animal Farm - From: Nobody said it was easy (but then came Peru). Your journals are a breath of fresh air for us lot back in rain sodden Wales, but I must know who is this rodent shagger you once worked with? (Name and Shame), would it be the same fella who some how managed to get his manhood caught in a beak of a goose? Be Lucky, Frano. |

| 4th October 2005 Franco | Enjoyed the journal - From: These could be the best days of our lives... I live in the US but I was born and lived in Colombia...first time I read a journal about a foreigner's account of the way they experienced a visit to my homeland... It is a beautiful country with many great qualities struggling with so many horrific problems... The one thing I trully miss about Colombia is how open and welcoming Colombian's are with each other.. I from Medellin an I know for a fact that they have to be the nicest people I have ever met... I lived in Italy three years and traveled a lot when I worked with an American Airline ...I yet need to meet a region with such open arms ... Good luck in your future travels... Franco |
