I'm currently working as a Courier for Keycamp at the Europa Silvella campsite on Lake Garda, Italy! I thought I'd try and keep you up to date with what I'm up to over here.

I may not get much of a chance to write on this, but hopefully I'll get a few entries in to show you what I'm up to :)

Off to Bella Italia!

So, tomorrow I will finally be leaving Europa Silvella and head over to be a real life courier on a site with customers again! I’m off to Bella Italia which is the biggest campsite on Lake Garda and the only one that is still open. Although it hasn’t been a particularly difficult couple of weeks closing Silvella down, it’s just been a bit tedious. We worked really hard for a week and were expecting to have already received our marching orders elsewhere by now but we were asked to do little odd jobs around the site (we can speculate as to why but there isn’t a lot of point in complaining about a lack of work when the sun’s shining). It did seem a bit extreme when I was counting scrabble tiles to decide if it ... read more

Milan

Milan. What can I say about Milan. I went there for another of my days off a couple of weeks ago. The unfortunate thing with living in San Felice is that there isn’t really anywhere of a decent size for a few miles in any direction, which means that public transport is a bit limited. It doesn’t matter too much for short trips as we all get given a bike each to use, but when you do want to head a bit further away you have to plan it meticulously, and then hope that the bus actually turns up! So I hopped on a bus to Desenzano, about 15km or so away and the nearest town with a train station. This alone wouldn’t be a problem but the last bus back was at 3pm, so I ... read more

I had a half day to fill, and was feeling active so thought that I would hop on my bike and visit a few towns reasonably close to the campsite. Firstly, I went with Jack and Laila, two of the other couriers here, to climb “La Rocca”. La Rocca is a reasonably big hill about a 20 minute cycle from here that has the ruins of an ancient castle on top. It also has the best view of the lake that I have seen so far, on one side you can see inland for countless miles and then on the other side you have a spectacular view of the lake and the mountains. After a while up the top, Jack and Laila went back to work and I continued my trip down the coast. I decided ... read more

So on my first day off I went to Riva with Lauren, one of the couriers for Al Fresco. At least we tried to go there. First of all we walked for half an hour to find the right bus stop. When we thought we’d found it, we found about 4 different stops clustered together on different exits of a roundabout so asked a local if they knew which stop it went from. We asked and ended up waiting at, you guessed it, the wrong bus stop! After watching the bus drive past, and knowing that the next one wasn’t for a few hours we decided to go to Salo, a town about 5km away, instead. Salo is a really pretty town full of Italian shops and cafés etc. I believe it was also home to ... read more

The First 2 Weeks

So after an early morning flight from London Gatwick to Verona, I stepped off the plane into the absolutely scorching 35 degree heat. As it was only 11 o clock it was clear that it was going to be very hot! After passing through the most ridiculous passport check ever (he looked at the front of my passport, saw it said uk and let me in) I was met by Andrea, the holidaybreak area assistant who drove me to my campsite. Before even arriving, I was taken to the depot to collect my (somewhat...erm...fashionable..) keycamp uniform before being driven to Lidl to pick up some food to last me the week. I then arrived at Camping Europa Silvella, San Felice del Benaco where I was shown into my accomodation and within 2 minutes of arriving, I ... read more

Awaiting the final call

So I found an advert the other day looking for people to work for Holidaybreak, the company that owns Keycamp and Eurocamp, as "demontage couriers", basically a mixture of being a rep on their campsites and taking all the tents down at the end of the season. It's only for a few weeks but as I am getting rather bored at home Dad suggested that it might be a good idea and give me a chance to improve my Spanish, as well as earn some money whilst I think about what I might like to do with my life! So I sent away an application from on Saturday night. Anyway, I had an interview this morning on the phone and they left me a message asking me to call them back as they were offering me ... read more
