We were lucky enough to have ten days back in Spain in January before our cruise around the Canary Islands. A few walks, plenty of socialising and a local procession of a trono with an orange tree on the Sunday (we think it was in honour of St Anton but not sure!!) We went a farce at the Theatre in Fuengirola on the Friday evening, and learnt that some friends of ours, Gwen and David, were going on the same cruise as us, AND that they were also using Norwegian Air on the Sunday at 7.15am. Driving back to UK via Granada and Alsace I was sad to go – sad to leave the hot sunny weather and start the drive northwards. Spent the Friday packing, cleaning and washing, ready to leave Saturday morning. Eventually away about 10.30am, after fond farewells to the neighbour who waved vigorously as we drove away. We were meeting another couple from the walking club, and we all arrived at the same time, them at a hotel in Monachil, and us at the Reina Isabel Campsite in La Zubia about 2.00pm. It turned out that we had both missed the turnoff for Granada, and it was all quite stressful driving around the City ! Sat 9thSept 2017 Drove, uneventfully, from Newport to Newhaven – a distance of 202 miles. Caught the ferry and arrived in Dieppe at 10.00pm and bunked down in Quai de la Marine - turn left out of Port and its literally 500 metres on the left and well worth the 12 Euros for its convenience and facilities!! (202 mile Sun 10th Sep A cloudy / sunny day on the Sunday and basically a belt down the normal route, Rouen, Evereux, Dreux, Chartres, Chateaudun – a well tried and tested route – but fairly fast! At Vendome we branched off to Montoire-sur-le -Loir where we had a lovely walk around the quaint old town, including a visit to an old historic train Station where Philippe Petain met Adolf Hitler in 1940. Sunday 7thMay 2017 Cheyenne to Denver 198 miles The weather could go either way today – lots of threatening rain clouds but also a bit of high cloud and sun – it would be whether the sun could burn it off! Up early and off by 07.45am to go Downtown Cheyenne. Not very exciting but had a look at Depot Square, with its giant Cowboy Boots (a bit like the Grommit Trail) and also Gunslinger Square (looked like it had just been built!!) Anyway, on the Interstate 25 and then headed towards Lyons and the National Park. Stopped at Estes Park which was a lovely little town nestled in one of the valleys of the Rockies. Friday 28thApril 2017 Riverdale, Salt Lake City to Alpine, Near Jackson 229 miles The day started cloudy and we headed north on Hwy 89 and the weather got decidedly worse as the clouds closed in and we started to have snow showers! Started going up Logans Canyon and miraculously the snow stopped and visibility improved! We followed the Canyon, alongside Logans River until we reached the snow covered summit! Fortunately the roads were clear!! Stopped at the highest point for a view over Bear Lake but it was still too misty! Strictly speaking Bear Lake is in two States – Utah and Idaho, but its also close to the Wyoming Border which we will be zig-zagging over the next few days!!
