I went to Sankore Madrasah today. Muslim traders and books were found everywhere in this now university, but it used to be a mosque that was founded in 989 CE by the erudite chief judge of Timbuktu. There is no central administration, It is a combination of school that each were under a single scholar. There was so many different classes offered like islamic studies, law, history, astronomy, chemistry, medicine, surgery, and many more. The university trade shops have busness, fishing, shoemaking, navigation, farming, and also many more. It is required that the students memorize to quran and master arabic. This university is known to have high standards and requirements for admission. I’m so glad I visited and wish I could have studied business here! I can’t believe how much of Timbuktu's culture revolves around education.
