WOW!!! OH MY GOODNESS!
It's a good thing you're keeping this blog since there is NO WAY you'd remember all these adventures! Your pictures are amazing! It makes me want to drop everything and just GOOOO. Now I really need to see the Antelope Canyon. You've met SUCH interesting people.
THe Colca Canyon in Peru is 10 times deeper than the Grand Canyon but you can't see it from the air like that. Can you imagine if you could? The Grand Canyon is amazing! Good for you on the helicopter ride!
Wow again! The world is an amazing place and I love seeing it like this through your eyes!
Keep it up!
Ah yes - Prince Edward County How funny to see you write Prince Edward County. My father used to say that all the time when we were going to visit my Aunt, Uncle and cousins who have a huge farm near Wellington/Picton area which is in that county. Spent quite a bit of time there as a child! Good to have you back on North American Soil. We are all looking forward to seeing you in June. I think the idea of a welcome home BBQ is a great one Jenny!
a tear in my eye Awww, I just imagined what it would be like to see my girls after being away for so long.... I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a grandbaby too. You're airport reunion put a tear in my eye. How exciting this whole trip has been for you. In one way it seems like you've been gone forever but in another way - it's been a year already?? I can't wait to see you and hear about your adventures some more. And if you have more pictures...... - Carla
What fun! It was so great to see you and hear more about your travel adventures. Enjoy the rest of your journey. Take your time and keep on posting!
The weather's finally decent here so we're back at it and dreaming about our next vacation!
tulips The flowers are amazing! How fortunate to be able to visit your homeland. I hope to one day go to Italy and do the same. Enjoy your time with your girls, oooh the grandbaby! :)

great photos. You two sure are putting on the miles. I know I've said it before. But what an amazing adventure. When you get back. It is an absolute must that you have a welcome home night at the church. Share your stories and photos.
happy campers I have been eagerly anticipating your next blog and I feel very fortunate to be able to live a little of your trip through you so thanks for your diligence on the blog crystal. You both look so relaxed and happy! I love it that you chose to see the netherlands in such a real way on your own terms with wicked. How fun is that, Bev.
Nice to hear from you again Hi there, we were wondering what was up. I guess that we are just spoiled and expect the blogs....you can't blame us really. Snow, snow and more snow here....ah to be somewhere else...... Sounds like an amazing time, did you find out what the police were up to? I have a craving for a babybel, can't figure out why. Enjoy the chesse, talk to you later.
Chineese food??? You would think that you might be a little tired of asian food, the Dutch food sounds yummy, anything deep fried usually is. I love windmiils, not sure why. When I was in grade school (can't remember when cuz it was at least 100 years ago) I did a report on Holland and was facinated by windmills then. It sounds like you are enjoying this part of your adventure, how cool to be able to go to your roots. When in Italy look for my family - I am the most jealous of you now by the way. Do me a favor and take a picture of a pigeon outside of the Vatican. That image is in my mind and I need to see it for myself (well through you of course). Take care, enjoy and continue to share with all of us. - Carla
Provinces Nice report, but The Netherlands actually has 12 provinces. Als the "bunch of islands" mostly belong to the Province of Friesland, the biggest island (Texel) belongs to the Province Noord-Holland.
The 12th province is Flevoland.

Wow Rene and Crystal, what an awesome and exciting adventure you are having!!! We sooo look forward to your next blogs and are so glad to be receiving them. We are also just a little green with envy......you are only a hop, skip and jump away from our Reuben--he is in Seoul, Korea--your part of the world right now...we are thinking it may be somewhat similar in Korea to what you are seeing altho different....hopefully someday we may get to see that part of the world too!!! Blessings to you both in your adventures and thanks again for sharing so wonderfully!!
beauty and horror It's amazing to see the beauty of the country and think about the horror that happened not that long ago. I hope that you don't carry that with you, I can't imagine what it would be like to actually be there to see these places first hand. They are resilent though to be able to move forward. Remember to take care of yourselves, your souls (and your soles, hahah - fish massage - yuck). I wonder if they eat the fish once they get big from eating feet. Hmmmmm, what did you have for supper? Funny how you noticed the baby walker..... Continue to share your journey I look forward to reading your blogs. - Carla
Wow Crystal/Rene I've read through all your blog's, I have giggled and gotten teary eyed...great job. Such an amazing time for you guys. Wow wow wow. Be safe. Trisha
Everything is just so fascinating! Reading about the killing fields and the prison made me clench my teeth - so disturbing isn't it! It makes me very thankful to live where I do (even with the never ending snow and cold right now grrrr....). What a wonderful journey you and Rene are on Crystal. Can't wait to see you in person for you to tell me all about yoru travels.! HUGS!!!
We are Rene and Crystal Hoekstra. We are a middle aged couple who instead of having extra-martial affairs for our midlife crisis decided to ride a Kawi for a year and explore some of this wonderful world that we live in. O.K so all kidding aside, we are blessed to be able to fullfill a long time dream and take a year off work and travel.... full info
