I.C. Golina
I was born in a little rural village called Alepa in Papua New Guinea. The village is about 3 hours drive south west of Port Moresby. I was born in a family of five, 3 girls and 2 boys. I was the baby one in the family. My dad passed away when I was just a baby and have no memory of my dad. Even today, I still can't picture how my dad looks like because there is no pictorial image of him been kept by the family.
I lived with my mum for a little while in the village, until I was big enough to attend primary school. Uncle Gea Dubana and aunty Gumuna Magutau took me to Port Moresby to live with them and attended school in Port Moresby city. I attended Coronation Primary from year 1-6 and then went onto do my year 7-10 at Kila-Kila High School. After completing my year 10, my grades were not eligible for further education or attend college. I then lived in Port Moresby with my older brother, Taina Golina and his family for a year or two until my sister-in-law's brother Guina Koi found a job for me as a Store-men Clerk for a Pharmaceutical company called "Johnston's Pharmacy".
I worked as a store-men clerk for few years before I was transferred to a chemist retail shop to be trained as a dispensary assistant. While working as a dispensary assistant, I completed a dispensary technician course which was ran by the New South Wales.
I then, decided to improve on my High School Certificate, so I enrolled at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby to do my Adult Matriculation. While doing my studies, I decided to work as a volunteer for St Johns Ambulance in Port Moresby. I did an intensive course with the St Johns for 6 months. I completed and passed all the required exams to be inducted as a trainee ambulance officer.
I worked as an volunteer ambulance officer for two years before I moved to Cairns to live. While living in Cairns, I attended Trinity Bay High to complete my Australia High School Certificate (HSC). After completing my HSC, I went to Tafe College in Cairns to do my pre-university entrance. After completing my pre-university course, I then applied to James Cook University where I was accepted to do my joint degree in Administration and Marketing, majoring in Tourism.
After completing my university degree, I decided to travel to United States of America. It was my childhood dream to visit America and it became a reality when I traveled to USA for the first time in my life. After, traveling around USA, I then return to Cairns to live. While living in Cairns, I had numerous jobs, which included; working as a Dispensary Assistant for numerous chemist shops in Cairns, Ticketing officer for Greyhound Bus Service, Food and Beverage Attendant in a 4-5 star hotel, Ticketing officer for a Tourism company (associated with a airline company), delivery driver for a takeaway restaurant and as a Purser for a cruise company.
Since, living in Cairns, I had the opportunity to travel domestically and abroad. I had the privilege to travel to most parts of North America, Asia, South Pacific Islands, Europe and The Caribbeans. I have traveled most parts of Australia but not Western Australia and Tasmania. I am planning to visit those areas in not too distant future and are on my priority list of travels.
I have been living in Cairns, Australia for almost 20 years now. Currently, I am working part-time for Queensland Railway and at the same time, studying part-time at James Cook University in Cairns.
