The father of my friend's friend runs a Japanese restaurant in Seoul. So after stuffing ourselves with bread at Dr. Fish, we headed back on the green line for the Seoul National University of Education, or the 교대 (Gyo Dae) station. The friend's instructions said exit 1 or 2. Very vague instructions. We took to the street asking passerbys if they knew where a 니와 (Ni Wa) was. We were directed to another Japanese restaurant, wandered around, asked a few more people and were just about to give up the fruitless search.. and we found it. Seriously. It turned out to be more of a bar than an actual restaurant. The shrimp tempura was great, the girls also ordered a dish that arrived on a skillet and smelled like the Takoyaki balls they sell on the ... read more

An example of making do with what’s leftover in the fridge. It was pretty delicious, I fried the tofu in olive oil until brown. I then placed it on the plate and covered it lightly in soy sauce. Next I lightly pan fried the cherry tomatoes by themselves and added soy sauce and sesame oil when they were soft. Once on the plate, I added kimchee. I love the kimchee juice mixing with the rest of the sauces. On the right are peppers with daenjang (bean paste). It was really good for an impromptu meal :)... read more

So I made rice for the first time in while.. pretty basic weekday meal: Rice, Kimchee, geem (seaweed sheets/nori), and bean paste to go with the peppers and kkenip (sesame leaves). The apple there is just an afterthought... read more

When we went by Mies Container on Saturday, we were told that there wasn't enough space for us. Nothing we could do short of waiting so we walked off in a fruitful search towards Gorilla Burger. Well come Sunday L.P. still couldn't stop talking about Mies Container. Turns out one of his co teachers had recommended it to him so it was expected that he would go try it and report back. Off we went in a group of five, when we walked in we were told that there was no space. The thing is, there were only two other groups in there, the place was practically empty! But because they didn't have a table with exactly five seats, we were told there was no space! Strange. We remedied that quickly by asking if we could ... read more

After wandering for what seemed like hours looking for Holy Grill then getting told there was no space at Mies Container, we settled for this burger joint called Gorilla Burger we happened to pass by. Good thing we did! That place was amazing, in fact, I'm going to be so bold as to say the onion burger (with additional bacon) I had that day was better than any burger I had at home! (except maybe a double double). Gorilla burger was complete with a korean/english menu and condiments I recognized. Thought I'd share :) Nom nom nom.... nom... read more

I can't recall the name of the cafe, but it was close to the mouth of the Camp Walker service road. Across the road from a Nonghyup atm. The place was empty the entire time but the worker was nice and let us charge our new phones. The drinks were pricey though, 5,000 won for one 5,500 for another.... read more
