Well we arrived at nong khai at about 9.15am, went through thi immigration and took a bus across the friendship bridge to laos immigration. had to apply for our visas on the spot as its difficult to get a visa in advance for laos. Then caught a taxi with a lovely lady called sonya, who told us all about herself, she has a lot of history, living in vietnam and russia, speaking russian, thai, laos and english! We went to her house and met her daughter jenny, who was really cute. We headed off to vientiane, and after several tries, found a hotel which was nice. We wandered around in the mid-day heat which was stupid and found an ATM and internet place, met a german girl called danielle, who had lived in sydney for the last year ... read more

Left bags at the hotel as it was time to check out and went to see if we could book a night train to bangkok, we could! wahoo! booked a nice private cabin for the 2 of us, so that was great. Decided to just take it easy and relax before our long journey over to laos. Marc was going to stay in the mall and i was going to go and visit Jim Thompsons house, but i started playing a game called jewel master at one of the giant game halls, and i finished it! level 21 and the top score! hahahhaha it was so awesome! We did have some passport pictures done for our visas, but i somehow managed to lose mine so had to back to the booth to get some more done, ... read more

We decided to check out of Prince Palace, as it was getting bit too expensive, and we decided on Pantamolian Hotel, in Siam. It was ok and near to the sky train and MBK centre, which was great, so we decided to stay there just one night s we wanted to try and book a night train to Laos. Went to the cinema again to see Rush Hour 3, it was good if a little daft in most places ;) Went to supermarket and bought some stuff for tea and breakfast the next day. Been having lazy day in bangkok, just relaxing, eating nice food and reading. Looking forward to heading out to Laos on the night train.... read more

Our flight was late leaving heathrow due to a problem with one of the runways which meant we were late arriving for our flight from dubai. I happened to glance at the depatures board and saw that our flight number had hong kong next to it and it said final boarding. Marc and I got a golf cart to drive us to the departure gate which couldnt have been further from all the shops...etc! The flight was ok, was great to finally land in bangkok and it was only about an hour from the new airport. We checked into an awesome hotel called the Prince Palace, where they upgraded us to a suite!! Day One in Bangkok Woke up for the sunset in bangkok which was great because were on floor 23 so nice and high ... read more

We are off so soon and I can't wait. Yesterday we were talking about all the things that we need last time, renting a bike in Penang and zooming around the island, heading to the war museum and then up to Kek Lok Si Temple. I can't wait to do it all over again. We have most of the required stuff, off for jap enceph injections in a couple of weeks, applying for thai visas now, also have the essentials from last year, backpack, mosquito net. So I started one of those countdown clocks, apparently its 2 months, 4 weeks and 2 days until marc and I leave home and make the long journey back to asia. It seemed only yesterday we were there to be honest, though my mind is a little flaky when marc will say 'oh do you remember the road side that we stopped off on the way to Krabi?' me- 'no...oh wait yeah the one with all the women serving really hot curry and then laughed at me when I asked which one was the mildest?', 'no, the one where it was really rainy and there wasnt much shelter'. me- 'no' So any tips on things to take when we arrive would be much appreciated. We plan to begin in Bangkok, up to Chiang Mai, and then ... read more
