Hayley Gillespie

Hello there I am Hayley. I am a Christian, 19 years of age and I come from Sydney, Australia. I have just begun my first ever independent overseas trip. I have just landed in London this morning and from here I will be staying in England for a few weeks and then backpacking Europe for a few months. Then going to Uganda for 2 months and volunteering with 2 different organisations. This is the first time I have ever done a trip like this and although Im still a little nervous, I am just giving it all to God and following him wherever he leads me. I hope that as I travel and as I post entries I will be able to provide a blog that is not only entertaining and fun to read but also encouraging, challenging and a blog that will change your life as mine begins to change.

Hello all! Sorry it has been a while since I have written an entry but I've been quite busy in Uganda. Let me just say, this place is AMAZING. I have been here for almost 3 weeks now. Wow! So because of our busy schedule and the fact that the power here goes out all the time I hardly ever get a long computer sesh. So basically there are all these issues with the government and the electric companies and so they turn the power off every day at some point, its so annoying and thus disables me from getting on here regularly. So I pray that this blog makes it and im not cut off! But who knows. Well I guess if you are reading this then it made it, so Praise God! Anyway so ... read more

I have made it to Uganda, Africa!!! WOOHOOO! :) Honestly, it just doesnt seem real that I am here, its like a very like-like dream. So, I arrived into Entebbe airport around 3pm on Monday the 1st of August. All of the flights were smooth and they didnt feel like they were too long. From Dubai we flew to Ethiopia which was about 4 hours long and from there to Uganda was about 2 hours. It was really cool because I met a friend at the Dubai airport as we were getting the same flight. She was a little older than me, but a lovely girl from London who was also doing some volunteering for one month in Uganda, I love that the Lord just blesses me with friends everywhere I go. I was feeling kinda ... read more

I just had the loveliest last day in England. I awoke to beautiful sunshine and then was picked up by Leah's grandparents, Adele and Lesley who whisked me away to their beautiful home in Selsdon and provided me with a beautiful garden in which we lay about sipping yummy wine and enjoying the most delicious food that Adele so finely cooks every time. The garden had grown so much since I had been there last (around April of this year) and Lesley had been growing so many vegetables and he showed me all of them. It was amazing! I have never really known many people who grow their own vegetables so it was very cool to see.The best part was that we got to eat the beans and courgettes for lunch and they were stuffed with ... read more

Hello my dear friends! I really hope this blog finds you well and in good health and just loving life. I know that there are probably loads of things you could be sad or angry about or struggling with right now, but the fact that you are able to read this blog means that you are very blessed. It means that you have been given many opportunities that many others in the world have not, it means that (most likely) you have heard about the good news of Jesus Christ, whether its been a little or a lot. Which means you may just know that living a life for Christ means living a life of abundance, so whatever you are going through right now, you don’t have to be miserable, there is hope! :) Something I ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague » Old Town July 3rd 2011

Hello my faithful readers, if you do in fact exist, thank you for being so faithful, if you are in fact that. I am in currently in the beautiful city of Prague - YAY!! I arrived yesterday on the train, and fortunately my hostel was kind enough to not include the directions from the main station to their location. So i got off the main train, got lost for a while, walked around, and eventually got on the metro and figured out how to get to the place after asking many people for help. But one guy did send me through a beautiful garden and i quite enjoyed that, although i did get many strange stares as i trekked through the beautiful gardens with my massive backpack with a rather distressed look on my face. haha! ... read more

The title of this blog entry is how you say 'I dont understand' in Hungarian. This is basically the only phrase I knew and could use hahaha. The kids at the camp were so so cute but didnt seem to grasp the idea that I could not understand anything they said. Every day they would come up and ask questions and I would just look at them and smile or laugh or say 'Nem er tem' and they would always look up at me with the most confused face!! haha I had a good laugh about this with Sina after the camp was over as we imagined all of the possible things the kids could have said or asked and how funny it was that my answer was always 'I dont understand'. For eg: Kid: excuse ... read more

So, im in Hungary listening to a song by Hungry kids of Hungary. Haha! but yes I am here. I am staying in a small town called Pecsvarad which is quite near to Pecs in South Hungary. I did stay in Budapest for 2 days and 1 night but thats all I really had time for. Budapest was really cool, it was like a mixture of old and interesting, historic buildings and cool funky modern arty things around the city. I didnt get to see that much of it but from what I saw it felt like it had a cool atmosphere and it was a fun place and im definitely planning on going back at some point - unfortunately not this time round. So I basically am in Pecsvarad for a week and then im ... read more

Europe June 15th 2011

I just spent one day and one night in cinque Terre. What a BEAUTIFUL place! Thank you so much to my Canadian friends who told me to go there because wow! Cinque Terre is a group of 5 towns on the Italian riviera and it is on the most beautiful coast. You can hike between all 5 towns but when I was there a few of the trails were closed due to landslides and accidents that happened so there was 2 open, one which is 20 mins and is just a straight walk and the other which is 1.5 hrs - 2hrs and you go from the second last town to the last one which is the one I did (except the opposite way). I LOVED IT! I will admit I was a little nervous to ... read more

Bonjourno! I have arrived in Florence! I arrived last night with Bianca, we caught the train over and it was a really quick journey but we made it and then got to our hostels and then met up for dinner. As I was walking to meet Bianca, i went over one of the bridges in the city and saw such a beautiful sunset. What a lovely welcome to Florence! It is stunning here. I like it better than Rome. Rome was cool but Florence feels more like Italy to me. So many cute alleyways and streets and oh its just beautiful! So today we woke up and went to a market in the city, we wanted to get some fresh food so we can start cooking more rather than eating out all the time because its ... read more
