BREAUX BRIDGE: We spent almost three days in the Bayou, staying about 15 minutes outside of the tiny town of Breaux Bridge. Breaux bridge is like something straight out of the 50's or 60's. Tiny. Humble. Quiet. One stop light- and only a blinking red light at that. There are a few restaurants right in town: a pizza joint, the "famous" Cafe Des Amis serving Southern specialties, a coffee shop, a french restaurant that was closed on a tuesday afternoon, and a burger place that looked like a diner. We, of course, chose Cafe Des Amis. Cafe Des Amis was empty- it was 3 pm on tuesday- although I could see it getting busy. Our second food experience in Bali- not to be remembered. The sausage was quite creepy looking. But our jet lag caused me to rise at 5am, after going to sleep at 2. It will be a long day! Things were just starting to open up. No rental cars yet. There was a tourist booth at the hotel restaurant and we went there to ask about a rental car. Of course- his friend had one. They offered to ... read more

Summary: Denpasar Airport to Kuta. Fat Yogi Hotel. Mamas German Restaurant. We arrived in Bali at 11pm Saturday night, November 21st 2009. The airport is not appealing, and the humidity hit us immediately. We got through customs, quite quickly and made it to the cab station outside. We got a cab to Kuta, Poppies Lane I, to our pre-booked hotel. We booked the hotel for one night only, and we were glad as Kuta and South Bali region is not our scene. We arrived at Poppies Lane, which is a small creepy alley in the middle of the night. We checked into Fat Yogi Hotel. It was descent, clean at least. With a balcony, and large shower with hot water. No A.C, but a sufficient fan. We went to a nearby wartel to use the phone, ... read more
