Wowzers, I’m back in Shanghai! After crazy fun seeing Sun YatSen’s Memorial, Seeing Confucius’s temple, and getting a first hand look at the Rape of Nanjing, I decided that my wallet was too heavy and went back to the super expensive city of Shanghai. You’re welcome Mom and Dad. Alright, so let’s get this party started. Aug 21st: I woke up in Shanghai, around 4:15, and after making it back to the hostel around 5, I decided to make today a planning day, and write a bit. I saw Jenny and Megan briefly for what happened to be the last time. I just never saw them again. I assume they made it back to CET ok… Of course chilling at the bar just turned into another bar conversation, this time with a girl from SiChuan Province. ... read more

So Shanghai got a little too pricy (although Beijing also spoils the heck out of you – 2 kuai to take the metro system anywhere in Beijing, I have no idea how the city can support that). So after seeing the bund again at night, seeing the Shanghai museum, and LuXun’s house, we’re (I’m) taking a detour to Nanjing. Without further ado: Aug 19th: With my larger luggage stored at the Shanghai hostel, and having caught a cold in Shanghai (something about the hostel here is driving my sinuses nuts), I got on the train at 10 and got into Nanjing around 11:40. At the Shanghai train station, I was informed that one of the students from the high school that my high school has a great relationship with would pick me up at the train ... read more

Howdy everyone, I’m back for another fantastic adventure, but in Shanghai – weird I know, but you’ll just have to deal with it. So last time on our magical adventure of fun and wonder, I passed CET, partied with my teachers, and had a blast with friends before they went state side. And now we begin a new chapter starting of with a power punch of explosion! Aug 16th: And then the three of us fell asleep on the train (gotcha!). The train got in at 5, found the hostel around six, and started wandering around for a place for dinner. After an hour of searching, we eventually found our way to Nanjing street, which has a very Vegas feel to it (consistent readers of my blog will have a sense of déjà vu right about ... read more

Sup Everyone! So as a quick spoiler alert, I have officially finished CET, passed that sucker, and am now in Shanghai with my two classmates Megan and Jenny. So last week I visited a Hutong, saw my first two street fights, and had my China Night. And from there… Aug 8th: So we studied TV today, which was really boring – but then we had to do a skit to promote a new TV show – so Robbie the Dos and I teamed up and did an awesome cops and robbers skit – to say the least, it was really balling – there was a robbery, I told him to stop in the name of the law (in Chinese no less) and then I “chased him” (as far as you can chase someone 5 meters in ... read more

Alright, pokemon reference! And if anyone is wondering, yes it’s a Japanese cartoon/game, yes I’m in China, and no, I don’t care I just infused the two cultures. You’re welcome. So last time I said goodbye to some friends, had maybe the craziest bar experience ever, and was then inspired by art (but not because I thought the art was good). While I continue to drool over my embroidery (yeah, that still hasn’t stopped – I put the pictures online, please go look at them – also suggested you have a bucket with you for the drool to follow) I guess I should talk about my week and stuff (and get a bigger mop…) Aug 1st Oh yeah, so guess how much sleep I got last night? One hour. Some stupid fly would buzz in my ... read more

And now for the third part of the trilogy. So last time I fought a war on drugs using something those druggie-losers (riding the Technicolor dreamscape) never thought of: tripping on life. So I went to the steampunk club, was forced to watch gay strippers, and may or may not have been approached by a 40 year old prostitute. And since I went to bed, I must have slept in super late right? July 30th: 8 am I wake up so I can make it back to CET, where at 10 we went to 798. I took a cab back, because I don’t think I was functional enough to walk back to CET with just 3.5 hours of sleep. So I got in a cab, and was able to have a conversation with the driver. Who ... read more

Surprised by my title? You’ll be even more surprised at how I contribute to it (and now that you’re drawn in…) So last time I ate break that might as well been sprinkled with crack, said goodbye to some friends, and lead my group to write possibly the best skit in CET history – or the world (about the same, right?). And now to fight a war on drugs (not to be confused with: fight a war, on drugs). July 29th: So after the mini-party, Tucker, Ian, roomie Jian Qiang, and myself went off to eventually go to an electro party for acupuncture records. But first we took the subway to near where tucker lives, and then meet up with Tucker. We went to his friend’s café, one of those cool hole in the walls you ... read more

Hello again everyone, so last week I pinged some pong, I lost my marbles looking at some embroidery, and then there was that Shanghai place, but the embroidery! I mean it was so fantastic … July 25th: So class happened or something, and then instead of doing homework, I went out to dinner with my good friend Zishu, as it was her last day in Beijing, and I won’t see her till next year at the earliest – so I think that takes priority (and I think means it does. Cause I’m a boss.) So me, Zishu, and friends went to some Japanese place at a mall (with a subway stop continently located in said mall) and enjoyed my time ragging on Zishu as she ragged me back. And then I think we ate for free. ... read more

Will the real slim shady please stand up? No? ok. So last time I realized how awesome embroidery can be, lost function of my jaw, and bought a work of art from a really famous artist. In this midst of awe and excitement, it sadly had to end, and thus back to my story: July 23st: So afterword we were suppose to have lunch with the Chen family, but Matt’s Dad’s business partner needed to have a business lunch for some reason (I got lost in the Chinese) which was super sad, but I digress. So we went to lunch, had an excellent meal, which gave me time to recover from my embroidery coma. The business partner didn’t talk with me, but he seemed to be in a rush, as he actually talked business during lunch ... read more

Blog numero dos (Matt’s been taking Spanish classes this summer). So last time, I rode the bullet train, met Matt’s parents, and ate the stomach of a bull (Toro!). Let’s go, cause this might be the most important thing I’ve blogged about yet. July 23rd: So we woke up early (omg, 7:30, really?) and went off to go to a family friends place to see some embroidery. At this point, I was thinking, “Oh, cool – Chinese culture, whatever.” We got to the embroidery place, and walked in, and then it happened. Speechlessness. No seriously. I think my mouth has previously, involuntarily dropped 3 times in my life and 2 of those times I was left speechless. Most times, I recovered in 5 minutes. I was speechless the whole time I was there (3 hours.) And ... read more
