We are in Udaipur now. We are staying a few days and then flying back to Delhi before going on to Kerela. I have managed to upload photos and will post a few here and also a link to a lot of photos on google. We stayed a few days in Pushkar which was nice but the lake has dried up -- no monsoon rains for a few years. We had a nice room about a kilometre from the centre -- which was good because it meant we had to do at least some walking back and forth every day -- of course, we could have taken a rickshaw but mostly we walked. It is vegan in Pushkar which didn't really matter to us as we are not eating meat anyway -- actually we are not ... read more

Jaipur and Pushkar

Well I hope I don't lose this connection. They have power cuts. I thought it would be really easy to connect all over India. New Delhi was good but I am having a difficult time since then. Unfortunately, I can't seem to post photos. I managed to upload some photos to google: http://picasaweb.google.co.in/graphix2go.faith/India1#. We left New Delhi after two days there. I really didn't like it so much -- it may have been very nice but I couldn't tell, as I said, the whole city is in a building frenzy and a haze of dust covers all. So we took the train from Delhi to Jaipur. We were in 2nd class AC. We got dropped off at the back entrance to the train station and ended up walking what seemed like miles to get to our ... read more

India ... Yeah!

Here we are second day in New Delhi ... only 8 hours late .... heavy fog over New Delhi -- had to stay in Amman for 6 hours and when we arrived in New Delhi had to circle the airport for about an hour -- it was about 12:00 p.m. by then -- shouldn't have been fog anymore. Haven't been here for about 26 (or more) years but it stills seems very familiar. Unfortunately, the city is now one huge building site. The pavements are dug up, they are building stadiums, I think -- hard to say -- all sorts of big structures that look like they are being constructed with matchsticks -- for the commonwealth games in September. So it is very dusty, very crowded, very polluted and evidently, very foggy. Micha thinks that there ... read more

We had a 4 day break in Prague at the end of June. We had a great time. We loved it. We didn't do too much ... except to walk, and walk, and walk and walk -- actually we really overdid the walking, I estimate 20-30 kilometers a day -- was pretty exhausted at the end -- crawled back to our hotel every night, falling into bed, groaning in pain. Even took a bath, using those bath salts the hotels always give you and that I never use. I think it helped a bit. By the end of the 4 days, I was feeling better and just about ready to climb mountains. We also took a day trip to Dresden -- so got to recover a bit before our evening run up to the castle and ... read more

As I don't see myself travelling anywhere for the time being, I will have to make do with travels around Israel. We went to Jaffa for a walk -- we timed it badly. The light was failing by the time we arrived so we just wondered around for a short time and managed to take a few photos which I will post here now.... read more

A Day in Jerusalem

During the holidays we spent a day in the old city of Jerusalem. We stopped on the way in the forest at a goat farm and bought some bread and cheese. Jerusalem was beautiful as always but a bit crowded because of the Jewish and Muslim holidays and lots of tourists. So we left the alleys of the old city and made a complete circuit of the city on the outside. There were hardly any people on the road and we had a nice long, leisurely walk around the old city walls. The weather was beautiful and the air was fresh and cool after the humidity of Tel Aviv. We were walking around for about 4 hours by then with only a few short stops for refreshments -- mint tea and date juice -- and we ... read more

At the end of my stay in Portugal we stayed overnight in Lisbon and spent two days wandering the streets. I was really impressed with Lisbon -- I thought the architecture was amazing and the buildings were all very colorful in pastels and earth tones so I took tons of photos. I found Lisbon to be reasonably priced for a capital city. A lot of the architectecture is very grand -- with many structures being surprisingly big and some of the buildings and monuments have a lot of detail -- sometimes too much but mostly it seems to work. They have these little trams that get very crowded and give the impression that there are lots of tourists which I don't think there is -- I mean, there are tourists but there isn't a crush. Some ... read more

Alcoutim is an inland town on with a 14th century Moorish fort and Spain is on the other side, across the Guardiana River. The countryside is very sparsely populated and there is not much of interest around here -- but it was a nice drive and the town is pretty. We visited the fort and walked through the narrow. cobbled streets in this little hill town. We were looking for somewhere to have lunch and there didn't seem to be anywhere. Next to the church we went into a cafe which turned out to be spread out over about 3 or 4 floors with little dining rooms on each. We ordered the half portion for some reason -- actually, I ordered the half portion and they misunderstood Russell and he got the half portion too but ... read more

We drove to Lagos from Tavira. There is not much to see along the highway and the main thing to be said is that there isn't much traffic -- I never saw so much as a hint of a traffic jam in this part of the world, despite being here in the middle of the tourist season -- maybe the price of gas is keeping people off the roads. Lagos itself was quite crowded, with good reason, very beautiful location. We went for a walk along the cliff and visited the fort -- obligatory it would seem in every Portuguese town. (luckily I like forts, palaces, castles, etc.) The wind sculptures were nice. The coast has lots of big rock formations and you can walk all along the coast by walking through gaps in the rocks ... read more

The main town in the Algarve is Faro. We spent a day walking round the old town and came back another day for a boat ride on the lagoon. The lagoon has a lot of migratory birds in the autumn and spring, even flamingoes. ... read more
