Good luck on your last leg! Dear John,
All the best on this last leg to your final destination. We have been following your progress with Barry and the car the whole way from London and we are thrilled to see you have arrived in Australia safely. We hope you have a fantastic time in Aus and look forward to seeing more posts, especially pictures of you arriving in Sydney.
Take care! Best wishes from everyone at Parker Hobart
Your Journey Dearest Barry,
Well at last you are there, well done I'm sure you can't wait for the car to get there and continue on your adventure around Australia.
I have told my son of the new date of arrival and he will be looking out for it in the press as to where you actually finish.
Sorry I have been so quiet for the past four weeks but have had a very big prblem this end and I had to go away for ten days , but will tell all at a much later date.
Good luck with the rest of you time and I will miss your bloggs when it's all over I am going to print them off as I feel they make such wonderful reading.
my very best wishes Annie x
Australia All Over appearance Hi Barry and John. I heard your segment on the ABC show last Sunday and was impressed by your adventure. I did a similar trip back in the early '70s and your photos took my memory back to some of the places you visited. I was able to travel via Afghanistan in those days so missed out on the southern part of Pakistan but it doesn't look as though the rest has changed much.
I hope you enjoy your trip around Australia.
John.
nice to meet you John Great to meet you today John, on Victoria Rd Carlton, Melbourne as you stopped to discuss my old Chrysler Valiant. And we saw the old Vauxhall 1950s era model go by as we chatted which was topical as we were in the middle of a chat abt old cars including the much admired Jensen Interceptor which you told me about.
Of course I wish you good luck with the Quarantine Service. They let horse flu in a few years ago for a bad cause as well as the Barmy Army so I am very hopeful they will let in your Hillmans for a good cause. If your journeys take you through Newcastle NSW I am sure my friend who I told you abt who restored the Rover 3500 there would love to give you any help you need and of course talk cars. I havent read all your website but I will look for what fund raising intentions you have in Australia. I mentioned to you my friend who runs the Fad Gallery art bar in Chinatown Melbourne and I wonder if a fund raising night might work there. You certainly should try and get some publicity on your journey around Australia and I am curious about your plans in that regard. You have a great story to tell and there are plenty of ABC radio stations, our BBC, who I am sure would talk to you for starters. As well newspapefrs and TV. Some of your experiences that you related to me would be of great interest to Australians. I listed my email address in the space up above so if you wish to contact me about any of the above feel free to do so. Great work John and Co and best wishes for a great cause - Paul
Flying to Adelaide Thanks for your comment Michael. I still have really fond memories of Sydney, as I and the family had somed wonderful times there as we did in Queensland and Maroochydore is probably my favourite place there. But SA is growing on me and that may be because of the family being here! Barry
Flying to Adelaide! Great little read!
Thanks! I have to say that everytime I head over to Australia I definitely head to the east coast! I have travelled all over Australia, but I QLD, NSW and Sydney have a piece of my heart!
Where is your favorite destination in Australia? Mine might be Lake Mungo!
India Every country has its good and bad. If you cared to read it all you would have seen that we found India fascinating and exciting and there were some fabulous sights to see and experience. That said, our journey by road exposes things that may not be seen by ordinary visitors and our experiences reflect that.
route through oz Hi guys
Looks like you won't make it to Qld now that you are coming via the West. We will have to get to Sydney to see you in that case. Going well so far - looks like you are enjoying yourselves.
"Where the bloody hell are you?" Hi guys - so you are going to be coming in via the West. Time wise I guess you won't make it to Qld now. Will have to get ourselves to Sydney then I guess. Doing great so far

Fruits of Malaysia Hi Tan, Well, you are half right - the hairy one is the Rambutan but the smoother skinned fruit is actually a a Langsat, not a Lychee. All three fruit are very similar in texture once peeled, and all have similar taste. All though are delicious! Thanks for coming back to me on that one. Barry
fascinating journey Hey Guys watching with interest your adventure.
You will have lots of stories to dine out on for years to come
Well done so far.
Pat

FAB AGAIN Dear Barry,
Well the adventure goes on you had real excitement on this leg of the trip, but you are both safe and that is the most important thing, and the car is standing up well to a real battering from the dreadful roads, the roads in India are littered with accidents where ever you are driving, we saw some dreadful ones driving from Agra to Jiapur all seemed to be lack of raod sense and not looking where they are going a lot of horn blowing but not much else.
Keep safe,
Love Annie
chapeau! John and Barry - full of admiration that you have got so far and handled all the diffferent situations that each country has given you. I wondered what would be the worst - but never thought that your greatest danger could be the driving of others! I hope that you both are on top form to tackle the next stage Christine
Well done both of you. I keep coming back to see what you've been up to as your blog makes compulsive reading. You're doing what I wanted to do in my early 20s but didn't but you're showing that it doesn't need youth to accomplish it, just determination and a couple of wise old heads! By the way what photo equipment are you using?
Good luck and safe journeying
good progress Well I go away for a week and you guys just keep on trucking. Sounds as if it has been tough. Reckon you need this chill time to give your bodies time to heal. Hope the crossing goes well. Not sure on your time scales. Why is the next bit going to take so many weeks???? Tell us in the blog why it is going to take 6-7 weeks to do the next leg. E
Varanasi to Chennai Annie, love your comments. Keep em coming! Blog going on shortly about this last week. Amazing, destabilizing and frightening at times on these roads. But car to be shipped next week and we are here in Chennai safe and sound for the time being. Hope all well with you too, and hope that family of yours in Sydney will be able to come along and meet us when we arrive. I think we are sort of still on schedule.
Yours aye, Barry
At the beginning of 2008 two of us were discussing cars while John was reading his Classic Car magazine and read out an advertisement asking for entrants to take part in the re-run of the greatest and longest endurance rally of all time – the 1968 London to Sydney race, which was won by Andrew Cowan in a Hillman Hunter – now a classic car. We decided to enter.
The rally was due to start in November 2008 from London and finish in Sydney on the 10th December but it never did materialise – due to Australian quarantine issues – they refused to allow cars to proceed into Oz without a two day Â... full info
