We arrived in Nepal in the evening and as soon as we were in our taxi to the hotel we were in love with the country. It seemed to have all that was good about India (cheap, friendly people, warm) and none of the bad (smells! piles of rubbish on the street and cows!). We checked into Holyland Guest Houst and met Birenda the manager who supplied us with a fresh cup of chai and we organised how we would spend our week in Nepal to make the most of it. It was decided that we would spend a day doing the general sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley and then 3 days in Chitwan National Park with a bit of rafting thrown in for good measure. Varanasi was our next stop. We had a relatively painless overnight train where I slept for around 6-7 hours with just a couple of wake-ups so that was remarkably better than last time! there were still cockroaches and Lauren swore she saw a mouse but I just concentrated on closing my mouth and on the odds that the cockroaches would probably end up in someone else's mouth this time! Varanasi is surprisingly a lot nicer than we had expected. I suppose our heads had been filled with horror stories about floating dead bodies on the Ganges that we had convinced ourselves the town would have the worst stench in the whole world and that the people here would belong to the half-dead. hi everyone who is interested in hearing about how things are going so far. I wrote a MASSIVE LONG BLOG two days ago and deleted it as soon as i'd finished it instead of publishing it so i was v v annoyed but you guys should probably be thankful as you would still be reading it now! Here is a summary of india so far though: 1. Delhi - we had a really turbulent flight and for some reason me and suzie had worked ourselves up thinking delhi would be mentally chaotic so we were pleasantly surprised and relieved to get through customs no problem and at how calm and clean everywhere was. phew! the next day we woke up to a more awake Delhi and realised a few home truths about india there and then. ... read more

Right it's about time for me to jet off now.. The bag is just about packed - it's fit to burst at the moment so I look like a snail balancing on its tail with it on! I'll hopefully be updating this blog as I go along so you can all keep track of me, I'll try and put lots of pics up to make you all jealous and you can also leave me messages that I'll respond to on the road!
